Montana State Bobcats Hockey Going To Nationals
The Montana State University Bobcats Hockey Team has
qualified for the National Championships for the first time
in program history and they are asking for help!
Started in 1998, the MSU Bobcats are a competitive
hockey team that competes in the West Division of the
American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). The team
is a pay-to-play organization that operates under the MSU
Club Sports department but is not part of the University’s
athletic department. As a result, the team receives less than
3% of funding from the university. The remaining funds for
all of the operating budget for the 30+ game season schedule,
league playoffs, Regional Championship, & the National
Championship are fully funded by our student athlete’s
player dues, sponsorships, & team fund-raising.
The team is currently in the midst of their most
successful season in program history. After going 3-0 in
dramatic fashion during the Regional Championship, the
Bobcats have secured a spot in the upcoming National
Championships as one of the top 16 out of 248 teams from
across the country. The ACHA National Championships are
a championship with Williston State. The Cats and Tetons
had played five times in the regular season with the Tetons
winning four of them, the most recent being a 5-2 victory in
Glasgow on February 22nd. But the Bobcats prevailed in the
title game 7-4 with Ryan Padden recording a pair of goals.

Championships will be used for:

It’s Legislature halftime
While we cannot control the weather, it has been
harsh here in NE Montana, you have selected me to
be your Senator for SD 17. It is my responsibility as
your Senator to help manage our State government
with knowledge and respect with “Progress from
Conservative Common Sense”.
Your 66th Legislature is on transmittal break, the
half way point of a 90-day session. One part of the
legislative process is to debate and revise present law
while repealing laws or passing new legislation. The
second obligation is to balance the budget for the
next biennium (2020 to 2021).
There are two state budget estimates, one is
from the governor and one is from the legislature.
By law these two parties must come together to
create structural balance to the estimate of revenues
and expenditures. Currently, 2019 biennium, our
revenues and estimates are on the track created by
the decisions by the Governor and legislature in the
2017 special session.
The final 45 days of the 66th session will be
focused on will the Governor’s request of $1.2 billion
more for 2021 biennium. Revenues estimates for this
increase will be hard to find. 44% of our revenues
come from federal dollars, we send in $1 and we get
$1.44 in return.
Overall the funds requested for 2021 by the Governor
are a growth of 8%. Our economy is only growing
around 3%.
Much of this driven by increases in the cost of
Medicaid Expansion created in the HELP Act. This
has grown from $914 million in the 2017 biennium
to $1.5 billion for the estimated 2021 biennium, a
63% increase. Expenses for our Health and Human
services are 43 % of the overall budget.
Other budget items are, education 23%,
Transportation 14% and the last 20% is judiciary and
thousands of other appropriations. I reality, 84%
of our revenues are spent and allocated before the
legislature develops structural balance to the budget,
while trying to finance all other needs of the citizens.
The Montana state budget is complex. Billions
of dollars in spending that are spread across
thousands of complex appropriations which are hard
to see and evaluate. All legislative appropriation
committees have made their recommendations
which will be formulated into HB2. I am part of
Section A, General government and we analyze
Departments of Administration, Governor’s Office,
Labor and Industry, Military Affairs Secretary of
State, Legislative Branch, Commerce, Commissioner
of Political Practices, Consumer Counsel, State
Auditor’s Office and Revenue.
We estimate for the 2021 biennium that revenue
sources for our state will be taxes on: Income, $2.7
billion; Property, $574 million (M) Corporations,
$315 M; Vehicles, $225M; Oil and gas production,
$125M; Insurance tax and licensing, $156M; Gaming
machines, $120M.
Currently our ending fund balance is $242M. The
governor wants this at $300M plus proposing $164M
increase in taxes. I see this as an unsurmountable
objective.
We have already funded the K-12 education for
$77M and public employees wage increase at .50
cents per hour for the biennium of 2021.
So, the final 45 days there will be decision on
the state financial budget estimate. We need how
to balance the theory of Educate, Medicate and
Incarcerate. Remember, to move something within
Montana government you need a vote of 26 Senators,
51 Representatives and one Governor. From a realistic
viewpoint, there will be bartering. The Governor
wants full Medicaid funding, a Pre-K school system,
a $300M ending fund balance and new infrastructure
dollars. I want all this too, but I must make decisions
which protect our needs before I do the wants.

Here’s The Real Solution
as seen in a nightmare
The 2020 elections are going to be
a snap for the Democrats, Socialists,
Moderates, Greenies and Indies if
they will simply follow my advice. This
is a blueprint to success for those folks.
So far there’s about a dozen, scratch that, twelve
people who tossed their collective hats into the ring in a
bid for Trump’s Oval Office.
Let’s look to Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (AOC) (D
Ny) and her brilliant plan to spend $93T (trillion) of your
dollars making things green. You Go Girl!!
Kamala Harris (D CA) is in line to be the very first
director of the Office of Fake News with her baddie/
buddie Lewis Farrakhan as deputy director. Together
they can make listening to or watching the news a daily
laxative for the masses. No one will know exactly what’s
going on. Another Atta Girl!
Ilana Omar (D Minn), born in Somalia 1982, came
to America 1995, cherished by her Jewish colleagues,
most likely to win the coveted “Miss Anti-Semitism 2019
award” by a land-slide victory. Her many marriages and
divorces are in question. One allegation is that she married
her brother to facilitate him coming to America. After the
supposed divorce she went back to the father of her three
children and they live happily ever after in Minneapolis.
But...can she be trusted? Do something about that head
gear girl. Looks kinda like a loaded-up diaper.
Next we should all turn our backs while Nancy Pelosi
takes away all our guns. Who is going to be left to protect
your skinny butt Nance? Yeah I know. She’s not running
for POTUS....yet.
And Cory Booker ( D NJ) whose steel-trap brain
thinks there is real iced tea in a Long Island Iced Tea
and that the main booze in a margarita is vodka. At
least he most likely won’t become an alcoholic. Jimmy
Carter, former POTUS who gave the Panama Canal to
the Chinese said “ I really hope he (Booker) runs for
president.” Great endorsement Cory.
Elizabeth Warren (D Mass) who is a self-proclaimed
“capitalist to my bones” claims full support for AOC’s
Greenies. Yikes. Blames her false claim of Indian blood
on her parents who “always told me we were part Indian.”
When in doubt (or indicted) blame the parents.
I hesitate to even mention the ultra-foul-mouthed
Rashida Tlaib (D Mich), who is a proponent of using
language only a dock-worker or prison inmate would
use to get her face on TV, is not my favorite person but
President Trump should thank her for lending confusion
to the Democrats.
Here’s another foreign born female type person.
Pramila Jayapal was born in India, attended Georgetown
Univ and Northwestern University in the US. Has a zero-
tolerance to illegal immigration, (Yay) and is revered by
Nancy Pelosi. (Boo). I’m not sure that is something I would
be proud of. Jayapal is “proud to have been arrested” in
Seattle during an immigration reform protest.
Ex-governor of Colorado John Hickenlooper (D)
is competing for the desk in the Oval Office. He told a
group in New Hampshire back in October of last year,
emphatically, that “I am Governor of Colorado, I am
going to run for President.” Not “ I’m thinking of running.”
Later in December or so he told other people, “To be
honest, to be honest, I haven’t made the final decision,”
[sounds kinda’ like he did back in NH].....citing “legal
ramifications” and saying “so let’s just say I’m leaning
strongly.” Kinda’ wishy-washy wouldn’t you agree.
And last but not least “The Bernie” Hero to all college
age people in America who stand up for Bernies “Free
Education for All!” Won’t they all he happy when they
finally wake up years from now and look at their tax bill
to fund all this free stuff.
At any rate friends, there’s the slate of today’s proposed
candidate hopefuls poised to upset “the Donald”. From
the looks of this lineup it looks good for the Republicans.

Uffda, dat’s plenty cold!
Elk Park, Montana (north of Butte on I-15) reached
a low of minus 46 degrees Monday morning. The
reading could also be the lowest temperature recorded
in state history during the month of March. However,
the Elk Park temperature won’t become an official
record until it is reviewed by the extremes committee
of the National Centers for Environmental Information.
The group, among other things, evaluates the scientific
legitimacy of extreme weather observations.
For now, the current record-holding lows in
Montana for the month of March are a pair of minus
45-degree readings here in Glasgow and Fort Logan in
1897 and 1906. In the lower 48 states, the lowest March
temperature occurred in Snake River, Wyoming in
1906, when the temperature reached a balmy minus 50.
An unofficial report in The Montana Standard
relayed an Elk Park reading of 54 below zero, occuring
on March 10, 1948.
 OBITUARY
Koni McMahon
Koni Kay Karst McMahon
lost her battle to cancer on
February 2, 2019 in Riverside,
CA. Koni was born in Glasgow,
MT, on March 30, 1965, to
Warren Karst and Janice Karst
Hodges. She joined Rod Karst
and Kristi at the family home;
Randy was the last to join the
family three years later.
Koni attended school in Glasgow and graduated from
Glasgow High School in 1983. She was a cheerleader and a
member of the Scotty Band. While in high school, Koni worked
at Eugene’s Pizza, Sam’s Supper Club and The Fashionette.
Koni always had a love for animals. While growing up
she knew every cat and dog in the neighborhood. This love
continued throughout her life.
Following graduation, she attended the International Air
and Hospitality Academy in Vancouver, WA. She graduated at
the top of her class. She was too young to get a job as a flight
attendant, so she decided to move to New York and work as a
nanny with a good friend (Shellie Tufton). While working as
a nanny she met actress Kathleen Turner who was a guest at
her host family’s house. One other notable event while she was
working as a nanny was her preparing a ham dinner for her host
family who was Jewish! (A small-town girl from Montana did
not learn that lesson in school.)
Koni quit working as a nanny and went to work at a group
home. Both her and her brother Randy had some memorable
experiences with the clients. It was during this time in her life
that she met Bill McMahon. Koni and Bill moved to California
and married at the mission in San Juan Capistrano.
Koni opened up up a child’s clothing store (Fairy Tales) in
San Clemente. Her daughter McKenzie was born during this
time. Koni loved “Fairy Tales”, but had to sell it when her and Bill
moved to Norco, CA. Norco, “Horse Capital USA”, was a perfect
fit for Koni as it allowed her to get a horse. McKenzie joined
her mother in being a horse lover, and became an accomplished
rider and showman (karate, baseball, soccer and volleyball).
Koni’s kids were the joy of her life. She spent countless hours
volunteering at their schools and attending their many activities.
She was an avid movie fan and attended movies almost weekly.
She is survived by her husband Bill and children McKenzie
and Michael; her parents Warren (Billings, MT), Janice
(Glasgow), sister Kristi Stingley (Glasgow), brothers Rod and
Randy (both in Glasgow), her mother-in-law Patricia Mc
Mahon (San Juan Capistrano), numerous aunts, uncles, cousins,
nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. Preceding Koni in
death were a brother-in law, Christopher and her father-in-law,
Michael.
Services were held on February 16th at Los Sierra University
Church in Riverside, CA. with burial at Lawn Crest Cemetery in
Norco, CA.
