Determine whether the following variables is qualitative ,quantitative discrete or
quantitative continuous variable.

a)The number of houses built in a city per month during 2015.

b)The amount of soda in 250ml carbonated drinks.

c)Classification of children in a day care center (infant,toddler,preschool).

d)Rating of movies as U, P13, 18SG, 18SX, 18PA and 18PL.

e)The number of people visiting a bank in any day.

A ferry company carries cars across a bay wants to estimate the average number of
people per car for June 2016.From their record 400 cars took the ferry during that
month.The company selected 80 cars as a sample for the study.

a)State the population of interest and sample for the study.

b)State the variable of interest for the study and identify its level of measurement.

c) Suppose the company want to use systemathic sampling technique to select the
80 cars,explain briefly how the sample will be selected.

d) Give ONE(1) advantage and ONE(1) disadvantage for using the sampling
technique in part (c).

a) Population: All 400 cars took the ferry during that month.
Sample : 80 cars took the ferry during that month.

b) –The average number of people per car for June 2016.

2) k= 400/80
=5

3) r= choose between 1-5


r=3

4) 3,8,13….until get sample of 80.

d) Advantage: easier to implement than simple random sampling.


Disadvantage : can decrease representativeness if certain patterns exist in
sampling frame.
