 Pre-snap Alignment

Defensive Huddle
 The Nose (N) will set the huddle with a “HOUSE” call a few yards away from the ball.
 Mac (M) looks to the sideline for the play call and relays to the rest of the defense. No
other player should be talking.
 $tud ($) stands behind the Mac and also looks for the play call.
 Halfbacks relay the coverage to the corners after they break the huddle
 The corners do not enter the huddle

When huddle breaks…

 Get to the line of scrimmage as fast as possible and align in pre-snap stance.
 Recognize and communicate offensive formation (I form, Ace, etc.) and receiver set (22,
31, etc.)

The play will be called in the following order:

Front→Stunts/Blitz→Coverage…”READY! BREAK!”

Field Strength:
Left – LUCKY
Right – RINGO

Is determined by:
 The placement of the ball - we will call the field strength to the wider side of the field
 If the ball is placed in the middle of the field, we will call it based on the opposing QB’s
throwing arm
 Defensive Personnel Identification

Personnel
 Depth for the Linebackers will be 5 yards from the line of scrimmage.
 Defensive back’s depth will vary depending on the coverage.
 The Safety will play 13-15 yards deep unless stated otherwise.
