Phil. 2:5-11
“…have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something
to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
        even death on a cross!
9  Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10  that at the name of Jesus every knee should
bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11  and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
"The common prayer-cry is,

“Fill me and lift me up!"

Gods answer is often:

“Be emptied and go down!"

Matt 9:35-38
New Testament
Background
Most important, and
frequent, Greek word for
anointing is "Christ," the
Anointed One.

"Christos" is translated
"Christ" >500x

Matt 16:17
Some examples:

Luke 23:35 "`He saved others; let Him save

Himself if this is the Christ of God, His
Chosen One.'"

John 1:41 "`We have found the

Messiah' (which translated means Christ)."

John 20:31 "But these have been written

that you may believe that Jesus is the
Christ…”
As Jesus of Nazareth is
the Messiah, so the
word "Christ" is used
with the name "Jesus"
to show Jesus the
Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Christos becomes a
name and title.
Jesus is the "anointed
one,” the title”Christ" is
only His.
Other "christs" are
false: Mat 24:5, Matt
24:23, 1Jn 2:22
There are many “anti-
christs" in the world,
1John 2:18
They will perform signs
to prove their claims to
be the "anointed ones"
from God, but John
warns believers not to
follow them.
Antichrists in 1 John
deceive others through
false teaching about
the person of Christ
and the nature of the
Christian life (2:22-23;
4:2)
Antichrist—one who
seeks to replace Christ,
that is, a counterfeit or
false Christ.

X: Mk 13:22
In the NT all Christians are
anointed with the Holy
Spirit.
3 verses specifically mention
anointing: 2 Cor 1:21, 1Jn 2:20, 27

The anointing of the Holy Spirit

means we should not be misled by
false christs and teachers.
Jesus the Christ has chosen us
and poured out the anointing of
the Spirit upon us that we are now
part of God's royal priesthood,

1 Peter 2:9.
