Letter Body Paragraph 1: At last year’s national convention, our displays highlighted the U.S.
Presidents. This year’s exhibits will spotlight the states. Each delegation will have a table to display items
relating to their state. Exhibits will be in the order the states were admitted to the Union. State presidents
are being asked to coordinate the display for their states. If you are not able to coordinate your state
exhibit, please arrange for another state officer to do it.
Letter Body Paragraph 2: Each display area will include a backdrop, a table, and two chairs for
representatives from your state. The table (2’ x 6’) will be covered with a white cloth. Your state flag will
be displayed in front of the backdrop on the far right. The 10-foot wide backdrop will have a cutout of
your state, along with the following information.
Letter Body Paragraph 3 (center on the page and put titles in bold):
Delaware
Capital: Dover
State Nickname: The Diamond State
Admitted to the Union: No. 1 on December 7, 1787
Letter Body Paragraph 4: Each delegation can decide what they want to exhibit on the table. We hope
you will include something to give to the people attending the convention. You know how attendees like
freebies. We anticipate about eight hundred people at the convention.
Letter Body Paragraph 5: We are excited about the state exhibits and hope that you and your officers
will make Delaware’s display the best one at the convention. Reference Initials

Letter Body Paragraph 1: I’m doing my dissertation on the Civil War generals and their families. Of
course, it is easy to gather the needed information on Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee. So much has
been written about these icons of the Civil War that the problem is deciding what to include.
Letter Body Paragraph 2: However, I’m not having as much luck with some of the other generals. I’m
particularly interested in Galusha Pennypacker, who was claimed to be the youngest general of the Civil
War, and in John E. Wool, who was claimed to be the oldest Civil War general. I believe Pennypacker
was from Pennsylvania and Wool from New York. From the little I’ve been able to gather, I believe
Pennypacker didn’t reach voting age until after the war and Wool was on active duty at the age of 77
when the war began.
Letter Body Paragraph 3: I’m going to be in Washington D.C., next month. Would it be wroth my time
to drive to Charlottesville to have access to the archives at the University of Virginia? Since I have very
limited time on this trip, I want to use it in the best way possible. If you don’t feel that your library would
be the best place to visit, could you suggest where my time might be better spent? Initials

Current Date / Mr. John Waldman, Executive Director / Boulder Arts Council /
2987 Seventh St. / Boulder, CO 80302 / Dear Mr. Waldman

I am writing to express my interest in the position of Events Coordinator for the

BAC. I would welcome the chance to use skills acquired over the past 12 years
planning events for a variety of community organizations in the Denver area to
help the Council extend its reach in the community. ∂ As a person who has
coordinated a wide range of community events for nonprofit organizations, I can
bring the Arts Council demonstrated ability to motivate and coordinate the work of
volunteers and to generate widespread publicity for events on a limited budget.
Most recently, I was chairperson for Aroura’s Earth Day festival, and I was the
public information coordinator for last year’s Halloween auction and dance to
benefit Denver’s helter Services for Women. The enclosed resume details a variety
of other activities that have helped prepare me for the position of Events
Coordinator.∂ I would welcome the chance to discuss how I might help the
Boulder Arts Council. I will be available any time in the next month. ∂I look
forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely / Your Name / Enclosure
