The chart below shows the number of men and women in further education in
Britain in three periods and whether they were studying full-time or part-time.
The chart given illustrates the number of both genders in either full-time or
part-time education over three following periods: 1970/71, 1980/81 and 1990/91.
Overall, an increasing number was seen in regards of full-time education for
both males and females.
The males and females numbers in full-time education were around 100 and
75 thousands respectively in 1970/71 that increased slightly to 150 thousands and
above 200 thousands in 1980/81 and 1990 /90 but for females that number was twice
more in 1980/91 followed by a slight increase in next ten years.
On the other hand, the number was much higher in part-time education as compared
to full-time. For females, it increased steadily from 700 thousands to above 800
thousands from 1970/71 to 1980/81 and it then soared to almost 50% in 1990/91. In
contrast, the number for males’ full-time education first dropped significantly from
1 million to almost 850 thousands from 1970/71 to 1980/81 but it then increased
slightly in 1990/91.
