Methodology

The quantitative research that was conducted by Grade 11 ABM students of section
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel at University of San Jose-Recoletos was about the comparison of the
time spent by students between surfing the net and studying. The researchers, who decided
thoroughly of choosing what kind of survey to use, were able to collect information through
the use of questionnaires. Questionnaires provide a relatively cheap, quick and efficient way
of obtaining large amounts of information from a large sample of people (McLeod, 2014).
Furthermore, since quantitative data is necessary, questionnaire is a useful method to
obtain limited and precise responses.

The chosen respondents were Senior High students of the University of San Jose-
Recoletos, ranging from 16-18 years of age since teenagers nowadays acquire more
freedom of deciding what to do with their free time. The responses that the researchers
were able to gather were from six different classes of the Senior High Department. The
respondents were chosen randomly, exactly ten students from each respective class.
Overall, the researchers have gathered data from 60 respondents.

The researchers tallied the gathered data accordingly by using graphs. Through
graphs, the audience can easily visualize and understand the results that are being
conveyed. There were separate graphs for the two questions, one for the time spent on
studying and the other one was for the time spent on surfing the net. The number of hours
were identified as the dependent variable. While on the other hand, the students were
identified as the independent variable. Thus, the x-axis recognizes the number of students
and the y-axis recognizes the number of hours spent on either studying or surfing the net.
Through this study, the researchers were able to figure out whether students nowadays
spend their free time studying or surfing the net.
