Abstract
In modern developing world there is increase knowledge in construction field, with which
construction of different type of irregular building of different shapes such as L, H, T, U….etc.
were constructed. There are many types of irregularity, setback is among one of them.
Irregularity is said to occur only when there is unequal distribution of lateral forces occurs and
also discontinuity among strength, stiffness and mass. Due to large growth in population creates
congestion in the city. For aesthetic look, architectural demand, for proper ventilation and to get
day light for such congested building people it is necessary to provide the setback to the regular
building construction, set back is nothing but abrupt reduction in the floor dimension of the
tower. Code guideline for setback buildings is carefully studied for their construction (IS 1893-
2002). For this work regular 20 storey building of 48mx48m is considered with 8x8 bays of
6mx6m.and model 1 building with setbacks at the height of 0.25H, model 2 with setback at
0.25H, 0.5H and model 3 with setback at 0.25H, 0.5H and 0.75H are considered. Total 4 models
were considered for analysis. For seismic performance analysis static non-linear analysis which
is pushover analysis is used. Software used for the analysis is ETABS 2016. Pushover analysis is
carried out for all the models and parameters storey displacement, storey drift, storey shear and
base shear are considered for tabulation of results. After obtaining results for all the 4 models,
above mentioned parameters with respect each models were studied, tabulate the results for
required combination and plot the graphs. Finally conclusion is made for the obtained results.
