How to survive holidays away from home/family/friends/etc.

Brian Delaney
Lots of people go home for the holidays but many, like myself stay behind at the res halls. Over
the years I have found the easiest way to avoid homesickness is to surround yourself with your
friends. Although you may not be able to go home to see your family I like to look at it this
way, for nine months out of the year I am up here in San Francisco and for those nine months
my friends are my family so relax, enjoy and let the celebrations begin.

Erica Laba
1) Go out for dinner (alone or with friends) and treat yourself to a nice meal.
2) Have a skype party with family and friends back home!
3) Have your family/friends come to you (if they stay at Ihouse make sure to fill out an over-
night guest form).
4) Decorate your room and/or door.

Shifally Rattan
Skype your loved ones
Pamper yourself (Shopping, video games, spa day, whatever it is
you enjoy)
Hot cocoa, blanket, bunch of old holiday movies.

Keep busy!
Just because you're on winter break, doesn't mean you should let all the skills your learning take
a break too. Put your efforts into projects you WANT to work on now (as opposed to home-
work) because you finally have the time. Practice, practice, practice, don't let yourself get rusty.

Sam Whalen
~ don't spend it utterly alone! Go somewhere with someone
~ Have a "starving artist" feast. invite friends over and have them all pick up something cheap,
like donuts or chips
~ call your family and say hello. Even if you don't miss them, they're missing you!
~ if you find yourself at a complete loss over what to do with yourself, volunteer at a soup
kitchen or shelter and try something new.
~ pass cool little gifts out to your friends; you could even organize a gift swap!
~ Get a few friends together and see something in the city that you've never seen before.

Diversity
We’re on Facebook!
i.house.860@gmail.com The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect.
It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our in-
dividual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity,
gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, reli-
gious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. It is the exploration of these
differences in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. It is about under-
standing each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and
celebrating the
rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual.
