RENWABLE ENERGY ENGINEERING

What's it all about?

■ This degree explores the best ways to make use of renewable energy technologies,
including solar thermal systems, photovoltaics, wind and biomass. It borrows much of its
structure from other areas of engineering, drawing resources from all around UNSW into a
coherent degree supporting learning for this growing industry.

What does it include?

■ About half of what you study in this degree is common with Photovoltaics & Solar Energy,
but it looks beyond the sun as a source of energy, encompassing a wider range of
technologies and their uses. It also addresses the important areas of solar architecture and the
design of energy efficient buildings and appliances. To get you work ready, you'll apply your
skills through 60-days of approved industry training.

Where will you work?

■ This career is becoming increasingly popular as our global awareness of

sustainability improves. You could work in a wide range of companies, designing, installing
and operating renewable energy generating systems such as wind, solar, biomass or hydro
systems. You could also work on designing and constructing energy efficient buildings.

What does a REE do?

Renewable energy engineers are part of the growing sector of green jobs
that involve environmentally conscious production. These individuals
maximize the energy potential of clean energy sources including wind, solar,
geothermal and hydropower. Renewable energy engineers monitor and
develop alternative energy outputs. They may pursue different careers paths
such as consultants and researchers.

Similar to other engineering fields, renewable energy engineers must have

an aptitude for math and science. They need to be able to apply these
principles to solving problems and communicate their proposals effectively.
Renewable energy engineers may alternate time between the office and a
worksite. On the job, they may interact with other professionals including
equipment installers and construction workers.
