In a city of population of 3 million, in the year 2014 there were 75 000 live birth and 30 000
total deaths, out of which 9000 infants deaths and 45 deaths of mothers during pregnancy and
child birth.
 By random sampling 2000 infants were selected to study GIT disorders for a period of
one year, the first survey revealed 400 cases of GIT disorders, subsequent follow-up for
one year revealed 160 new cases of GIT disorders.
 An outbreak of measles also occurred during the same year affecting 400 infants, out of
which 60 died due to post measles pneumonia

Calculate the following: -


1) Crude birth rate, crude death rate, infant mortality rate, and maternal mortality rate.
2) Yearly incidence of GIT disorders among infants
3) Point prevalence of GTI disorders at the first survey and yearly prevalence of GIT
disorders
4) Case fatality rate of measles
5) What type of morbidity survey was undertaken for the study of GIT disorders
6) What do you feel should be the frequency of follow up visits to elicit the occurrence of
new GIT cases? Discuss giving reasons.
