“Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think”

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Albert Einstein (1879–1955)

As a Spanish Secondary teacher, the philosophy of how to teach students a foreign

language considers students unlimited learning potential for growth and social development,
encouraged by making students independent thinkers that can be an asset to society and to the
world.
When cognitively encouraged, students can develop as responsible independent thinkers
and productive citizens who would be open to diversity as a way of life. Diversity in my classroom
will speak of respect for who they are, the ability to work together in a cooperative, safe and
inclusive learning environment that promotes choices, team work, communication, critical
thinking, and creativity.
The most effective teaching and developmental practice for English speaking students to
learn a second language is through “No English Words” policy in the classroom. In addition, the
constant practice of different scenarios that combine grammar, vocabulary and language lab will
allow students to learn in an immersive classroom environment, where independent thinking
will be the key to accomplish the goal of acquiring Spanish as a second language.
Students will be assessed through different methodologies according to the pedagogical
instruction they receive. Language standards are designed to be relevant and reflective of
knowledge with vocabulary used in the real world, where students are able to deliver what they
learn – not by repeating a memorized text – but by creating a sequence of phrases, and carrying
on conversations that allow them to express their own ideas and thoughts.
A welcoming inclusive learning environment that provides the same opportunities for
every student is the key to their success, where a positive social classroom atmosphere presents
the appropriate conditions for students with different learning styles to connect, learn, flourish,
grow, and develop their language skills to their highest potential.
