Finding Aid | 640 Archer-Capuzzo | Tori Linville

FINDING AID

ABSTRACT:

Ashley Victoria “Tori” Linville (1994 – ) is a graduate student at the University of North
Carolina at Greensboro known for her astonishing ability to hoard hundreds of books without
actually reading them. The Tori Linville Childhood Reading Collection, dedicated on March 11,
2018, is a collection of fiction novels actually read by Linville during her childhood between
2000 and 2009. The collection is known for Linville’s defense of the novels, despite having
barely read them since the decade she first encountered them.

ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION:

Acquired: 2018.

The collection is incomplete, as Linville has been quoted that she regrettably sold and gave away
several other works from the collection. These works have been lost to time, but an interview
with Linville will surely garner enough information for research purposes. All novels in the
collection were given at various times of donation, without any additional materials added since
March 11, 2018.

Rules for Use: Collection is open for research and reading.

Copyright Information: Copyright has been retained by the authors of the various novels, held by
United States copyright law. Additional marginal notes, highlighting, or underlining were added
by Linville and give insight into Linville’s experience as a reader.

Acquisition Note: The collection was provided by Linville’s gracious family members (i.e.,
parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles) who understood that a child’s love for reading must be fed
and fed often.

SCOPE AND CONTENTS:

The Tori Linville Childhood Reading Collection contains 19 novels by various authors that Tori
Linville read between the years 2000 and 2009. The collection includes novels from Linville’s
personal reading to novels assigned to Linville for class reading assignments throughout grade
school that she loved enough to keep. Most of the novels feature endangered protagonists and
heroines of quality, far from Linville’s everyday life of chores like vacuuming and walking
ferocious Chihuahuas.

The publication dates of the works range from 1950 to 2003 and are all novels that Linville read
throughout childhood. The predominant genre is suspense/thriller/mystery, with subgenres of
fantasy and dystopian fiction. The novels included in the collection, listed by earliest date of
publication first, are:

 The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis (1950)
