UNIT 2. METROLOGY.

Calculate areas and volumes.

Change units.

Use the different measure devices:

- Caliper: Can measure Outer dimensions, Inner dimensions, Depths

o Precission: aprox 1/10 mm.

- Micrometer:More precise dimensions. (1/100 mm)

1+0.5+0.2 = 1,7 mm

1
5+0.5+0.26 = 5,76 mm

- Alexometer: To measure the diameter of engine cylinders.

2
- Goniometer: To measure angles.

- Ruler: Precission: 1 mm.

- Square:

3
- Tape measure.

Tolerances: Basic size, Lower deviation, Upper deviation.: 40+0,3-0,2

Geometric Dimensioning:

Datum reference
Flatness
Perpendicularity
Parallelism
Concentricity
Positional tolerance

4
The side should be between 2 planes separated 0.1 mm and parallel to A.

The side should be between 2 planes separated 0.05 mm and perpendicular

to A.

5
Engineering Fit.
Transition:

Hole: 40+0,3-0,2, Shaft: 40+0,3-0,2

Clearance:

Hole: 40+0,3-0 , Shaft: 40+0-0,2

Interference fit.

Hole: 40+0-0,2, Shaft: 40+0,3-0

EXAMPLE:

1. Interference, because the shaft is always bigger than the hole.

2. Transition, because the shaft can be bigger or smaller than the hole.
3. Clearance, because the shaft is always smaller than the hole.
