Eurocode 2 may be used to design in-situ building
structures. It is intended that the examples will

may be performed. Generally, the calculations
are cross-referenced to the relevant clauses
in Eurocode 2 and, where appropriate, to other
documents.
The examples range from simple – designed to
illustrate how typical hand calculations might be
done using available charts and tables derived
from the code – to more detailed workings of the

detail far in excess of that necessary in design
calculations once users are familiar with the code.

Various national annexes for Eurocode 3 have now
been circulated for public comment and are to be
published shortly. The most important is the annex
to BS EN 1993-1-1 (general rules), and this should
be available in the first quarter of 2008.

Burgundy Book
Publication of the Burgundy Book, the Eurocode
equivalent to The Steel Construction Institute’s
(SCI) well-known Blue Book on section properties
and member capacities, is now just awaiting
confirmation of national annex values.
Presentation is in accordance with Eurocode 3
and resistances are presented in a form for direct
use. Some interesting omissions in the Eurocode
have been highlighted and at least one mistake.
Where rules are omitted and there is no non-
conflicting complementary information (NCCI),
rules from BS 5950 have been adopted.
Preparation of the Burgundy Book has
highlighted some areas where there can be
significant economy compared to BS 5950, notably
in lateral-torsional buckling resistance.

provider IHS to develop a fully customisable Screen shot from the new e-Burgundy Book, an electronic Eurocode version of the Blue Book
