MEET KATE

Are you feeling stuck where you are, or are feeling that everything you’ve established for yourself,
your job and your everyday routine now feels stagnant?

Kate used to feel this way too.

Kate’s an elementary school teacher, who chose this path because she loves kids. Her patient and kind
demeanor made her into a naturally nurturing educator who kids loved in return. Kate always felt that
teaching children was her calling, a natural career path that could also earn her a stable living.

She’s the type of teacher who patiently goes through every question her students have about any
topic. She stays after school to help students with their assignments, despite having piles of papers to
mark.

Despite the long hours, she loved it. However, Kate also had to spend a lot of time dealing with her
kids’ demanding parents as well.

Unfortunately, most of it wasn’t what she considered meaningful work. From explaining misbehaviors,
to assuring parents that their kids really are teachable after all... Kate even had to remind parents
every now and then that teaching kids good manners was not only the school’s responsibilities, but an
important role that parents played too.

While work was tough, Kate was especially frustrated about the parents. But each time she just
pushed through, trying her best to handle the situations as they came...

The Turning Point

Until the day she became a new mom, and everything changed. Suddenly, she had two jobs to handle
and what seemed like only half the time!

Taking care of her newborn was another full time job, adding exhausting evenings and sleepless nights
to her already demanding daily routine. Everyday, Kate would drag herself to school because she
couldn’t sleep well. And while she could still manage to draw energy for her students, by the time she
had to deal with the parents... she began getting impatient.

One day, she almost lost her temper when one of the parents scolded her for being an irresponsible
teacher; and this had never happened before.

Questioning Herself

Physically and emotionally exhausted from her work and taking care of her newborn, for the first time
in her career, Kate started questioning her passion.

“Is this career really for me after all?”

Will this become the pattern of my life? Dealing with difficult parents every day, finishing work feeling
frustrated and then going home to raise my child in such a negative state?

“There must be something more than this.”

Kate knew that she had to change something or risk feeling permanently burnt out. And the thought
of losing her passion terrified her.

So one day, Kate took some time off to reflect, and think about what was really meant for her:

“I still love kids. I still care about my kids at school and I’m just as
excited to raise my little boy and teach him about my values. But
where am I getting stuck?”

New Opportunities

She started to think about what most excited her and what most frustrated her.

She was excited about teaching and nurturing children. She knew she’d do anything to help children
grow up living a happy and fulfilling life.

It wasn’t her career that made her feel so stuck. It was the endless wrestling between her stamina and
the parents.

As a new mom, she started to understand why parents would over worry or over protect their
children too much -- these parents cared about their children but they had blind spots in when they
raised their kids. She also realized how much she had been stretching herself to her limits to be the
perfect mom, trying to achieve zero-discomfort for her baby.

With this realization, she knew she had to do something to help parents, in order to really help
children to grow up living a healthy, happy and fulfilling life.

Taking Action

Kate decided to initiate a parents meet-up after school once a week. The aim of these meet-ups were
to help parents learn how to raise happy and successful kids.

During these meet-ups, parents exchanged books about parenting, shared about their worries
and talked about how they tackled children problems. Sometimes, Kate also invited professional
psychologists, counselors and nutritionists to the meet-ups so parents could get professional
parenting advice.

Hosting these meet-ups was a new responsibility for Kate, but she didn’t feel overwhelmed this time.
She was glad that the meet-ups comforted many parents. While she could start to focus her energy
on nurturing children instead of dealing with demanding parents, she sometimes found inspirations
during the meet-ups about how to raise her own little boy too.

Once she has direction, she sees opportunity everywhere

If you’re feeling stuck in life as well, it’s time to find out why and dig out a clear direction. Only when
