I will start this lesson by asking students what they already know about plants. This will give me an idea of the
student’s prior knowledge. Then, I will play the Brain Pop video. It is a 4-minute video that described the
different parts of a plant and their used/ why the plants need them. Once the video is over, we will discuss
what we learned by identifying the different part of a plant and what their functions are. This should take
about 15-20 minutes.
After, I will give students 10 minutes to play with the features from this topic on Brain Pop. The features the
students will be able to choose include, word play, games, write about it, draw about it, activity, talk about it,
belly up, or pop a joke. Playing with these features will help students process the information so they are able
to complete the next part of the lesson. Lastly, I will give students a diagram with blank labels on the parts of
the plants. I will have them fill in the blanks. Students will do this one-on-one with no resources. This will help
me assess their learning at the end of the lesson. This should take about 10 minutes. In conclusion I will take
up students’ diagrams and then we will complete one together as a class as a review. This should take about 5
minutes. In total this lesson should take 45-50 minutes.

Reflective Practice: I think this lesson makes the learning process more fun and engaging for students. They
can challenge themselves with some of the activities or they can choose to do something a little like
challenging and play some of the games. Whether they realize it or not, not matter what they choose they are
learning. To further extend this lesson you could include a hand on activity. For example, you could have the
students plant seeds for flowers and over time they can watch them grow and see the parts of a plant
develop.
