Q. MODULE-II Course Learning

No. Outcome levels
1 a In a toggle mechanism as shown in the fig below, the slider D is constrained to CO212.2 L4
move on horizontal path. The crank OA is retaining in CCW direction at a speed
of 180rpm, increasing at the rate of 50 rad/sec2. The dimensions of various links
are as follows: OA = 180 mm, CB = 240 mm, AB = 360 mm, BD = 540 mm. For
the given configuration find (i) Velocity of slider D and angular velocity of BD
(ii) Acceleration of slider D and angular acceleration of BD.
2 a A four bar mechanism as show in the fig below crank BC rotates with an angular CO212.2 L4
velocity of 100 rad/sec and angular acceleration of 4400 rad/sec 2 at the instant
when the crank makes an angle of 530 to the horizontal. Draw th acceleration
polygon and determine the linear acceleration f point E and Rand the the angular
acceleration of link 3.

3 a An oscillating cylinder mechanism is shown in fig below. The crank O2B rotates CO212.2 L4
at constant 300 rpm in CCW. For the position shown, determine the magnitude
and direction of (i) Angular velocity of cylinder (ii) Velocity of A3 a point of
piston (iii) Angular acceleration of cylinder (iv) Acceleration of A 3. Also state
whether the magnitude of angular acceleration of cylinder is increasing or
decreasing at the instant A3 and A4 are coincident points of piston and cylinder
respectively. Given O2B = 150 mm, O2O4 = 600 mm, A3B = 400 mm.

4 a For the static equilibrium of the quick return mechanism as shown in the fig CO212.2 L4
below, find the required input torque T2 for a force of 300 N on the slider D.  =
1050. Coefficient of friction µ = 0.15 for each sliding pair. The impending motion
of the slider is to the left. Given AB = 200 mm, OC = 800 mm, CD = 300 mm.
5 a For the static equilibrium of the mechanism as shown in the fig below, find the CO212.2 L4
required input torque T. Given AB = 150 mm, BC = AD = 500 mm, DC = 300
mm, CE = 100 and EF = 450 mm.

6 a A four bar mechanism under the action of two external forces as shown in the fig CO212.2 L4
below. Determine the torque to be applied on the link AB for static equilibrium
by virtual work method. Given AB = 50 mm, BC = 66 mm, CD = 55 mm, CE =
25 mm, CF = 30 mm, AD = 100 mm.
