Crystallization Cementitious Waterproofing

DESCRIPTION

Deepseal 200 is a brush or spray applied coating for waterproofing and protection of concrete. It is
cement based supplied in powder form and formulated from Portland cement, fine quartz sand and
active chemicals. The chemicals require the presence of water in the capillaries in order to penetrate and
from sealing crystals.

Although surface applied, Deepseal 200 is not just a painted membrane. The special active Deepseal
chemicals penetrate and become integral with the concrete and is not merely a coating which can be
easily damaged. No special protective system is necessary (as in membrane waterproofing systems)
when back filling is under way. Deepseal products tolerate water and therefore substrates do not have to
be specially dried out before the application can be made – as with most solvent based resin systems. In
fact Deepseal must always be applied to damp surfaces and can be applied to surfaces weeping with
water even against high water pressure.

Deepseal 200 slurry applied to both external and internal surfaces will provide total protection to the
concrete. Should the wall develop shrinkage cracks, the unique qualities of Deepseal react with the
moisture to seal off the leakage even against high water pressure.

USE
Deepseal 200 can be used for:

• Swimming Pools, Water Tanks & Reservoir, Waste Plant, Lift Pits, Underground Shafts
Deepseal 200 has been successfully used for in-ground or suspended pools. Deepseal 200 penetration
property enables crystals to be formed inside the concrete and become integral part of the structure.
Thus provides total protection to the pool surface that is subjected to water and chemical absorption
which can attack reinforcing steel. Applying Deepseal for pool structure will assure the performance
since Deepseal works better the older it becomes because it works with moisture.

• Basement & Foundations (both external and internal wall)


Deepseal 200 slurry can be applied to either internal or external wall surface to provide total protection
to concrete. Usually, Deepseal 200 is applied externally to waterproof the basement structure. When the
external wall is not accessible, Deepseal 200 can be applied to internal wall. Should the wall develop
any shrinkage cracks, the unique features of Deepseal crystallization material reacts with moisture to
seal off the leakage even against high water pressure. Deepseal 200 crystallization principle can work
under both positive and negative water pressure.

 Deepseal 200 penetrates deeply and seals concrete capillary tracts or shrinkage cracks up to 1mm.

 Can be applied from positive or negative side. It can be applied to moist or concrete that has set but
yet to be hardened.

 Increase resistance to frost, weathering, salt water, aggressive ground water and many chemicals.

 Deepseal 200 permits the concrete to breath, eliminating water vapour from building-up thus
leaving the concrete completely dry.

METHOD OF STATEMENT
1
Surface Preparation
I. Thoroughly clean concrete surfaces free of oil, grease, paint and loose dust, mud and
laitance and hose down concrete surfaces thoroughly.
II. Check for honey combs in concrete surfaces and rake/hack out all honey combs to exposed
concrete.
III. For all constructions joints, v-groove to a depth of about 1” following the contour in line of
the construction joints for walls and for floors.
IV. All corners between walls and floors shall also be v-grooved to allow fillet to be filled at a
later stage.
V. After checking for the honey combs construction joints and the fillets, hose down the entire
concrete surfaces to be treated with clean water. Wait until all the running water has dried
and when the concrete is still damp, the application of the first coat of Deepseal can start.

Mixing
1. Mix the Deepseal 200 into water, the ratio is 2.5 parts of Deepseal 200 to 1 part of water by
volume.
2. Stir the mixture of Deepseal 200 in the water thoroughly and evenly for 3 minutes.
3. It is advisable to use up all the mortar for every mixture. The subsequence applications shall
use the new mixed Deepseal 200 mortar.

Application
1. Check to ensure the concrete surface is touch-dry before applying Deepseal 200.
2. Deepseal 200 can be applied by using brush or broom with fine bristles as well as by spray
using spray gun.
3. For brush-on method, 2 coats at 0.75Kg/M2 per coat are normally required. The coats are
installed in two passes. After the application of the 1st coat of Deepseal at a rate 0.75 kg/m2,
allow it to dry.
4. When the 1st coat is in tacky condition, the 2nd coat is then ready to be applied. The
procedure of application for 2nd coat of Deepseal is the same as the 1st coat except the
application should be counter cross wised to the 1st application coat.
5. In spray-on method, then one coat of 1 to 1.25 Kg/M2 is normally sufficient by using
spraying gun.
6. After the entire application of Deepseal 300 had been applied and all the construction joints,
honeycombs and fillets have been done, hose down thoroughly the entire surfaces of the
areas with water for 2 days about twice a day.
7. Clean up the entire area and the Deepseal 200 will work by its principal of penetration into
concrete and waterproof the concrete surfaces.

DEEPSEAL 200 CEMENTITIOUS WATERPROOFING – METHOD STATEMENT

There are several methods of application of Deepseal 200 to waterproof the concrete. The contractor
shall decide which method is suitable for their own application and adapt the procedures as outlines
below:

Application by Spray Systems

1. Surface Preparation

I. All surfaces to be treated with Deepseal Waterproofing must be thoroughly inspected, the
concrete surface must be clean and free from oil, Grease, paint, loose dust, mud and laitance.

II. Horizontal surfaces should not have curing agents or hardeners applied prior to the Deepseal
application.
III. Honeycombs should be hacked off to expose the concrete.
IV. All chipping and loose particles should be removed, clean surface with water before
repairing.
V. Ensure all concrete surfaces are hosed down with water as moistures must be present in the
capillaries prior to the application Deepseal 200.
VI. New concrete must be at least three days old before it should be treated.

2. Angle Fillet

I. At all junctions between slabs and walls, do an angle fillet of 25mm X 25mm with
Deepseal 300.
II. Mix 3 parts of Deepseal 300 to 1 part water to mix thoroughly to a mortar consistently and
applied with a trowel to form an angel fillet.

3. Outlet and Pipe Penetration

I. Around all outlets hacked around the pipe sleeve to make a V groove joint surrounding the
outlets and pipes to a depth of 25 mm.
II. Wash thoroughly this hacked off areas to expose the clean concrete surfaces between
outlet pipe and concrete.
III. Mix Deepseal Injection Grout 2½ parts to 1 part of water in a container and stirrer
thoroughly for at least 3 minutes until the mixture become thick consistency slurry and pour
the mixture or grout into the hacked off V grooved and level to concrete level. See diagrams.

4. Application procedures.

I. Hose down the entire concrete surface to be treated with clean water and allow the surface to
partly dry so that it is damp, removing any surface water or ponding prior to application.
II. Mix 2.5 parts of Deepseal 200 to 1 part water by volume and mix thoroughly for at least 3
minutes. The mixing of Deepseal 200 and water can be done with a slow stirrer and mix for
3 minutes, to ensure the Deepseal 200 is totally being stirred properly into flowable thick
consistency slurry. If using hand with a stick rod to stir Deepseal 200 and water, the
applicator must ensure that after mixing 3 to 5 minutes that no lump of Deepseal 200 must
remain in the mixture. It is imperative to ensure that Deepseal 200 is thoroughly mixed. The
mixture should be used up within half hour, after which time it will start to thicken. No extra
water to restore workability.
III. For spraying method, it is of great important that the mixing of Deepseal 200 with water
should be mechanical mixed by a stirrer and ensures no lump should ever remain in the
mixture. Before the applicator start to spray, he has to make sure the area to be sprayed to
map out properly to ensure 1 bag of Deepseal 200 of 25 kg should cover an area of 33m2
approximately for the first coat application.
IV. When start spraying, the applicator must ensure the spray pattern to be consistent from left
to right or from right to left first. For spraying method, the pressure of air compressor should
be adjusted sufficiently to ensure that the spraying do not have too much air pressure. As too
much air pressure will make the Deepseal 200 bounce off the wall or concrete especially
during the spraying of wall. Under no circumstance, material bounce off the wall should be
picked up from the floor for application.
V. In spraying method, the first coat should be allowed to dry overnight or thoroughly before
the second coat is applied pre-wet again.
VI. On completion of spraying, the gun shall be thoroughly wash and clean with water to ensure
that no Deepseal 200 material is left inside the gun or hose.

5. Screed and tiling works

I. Any plastering or screed to be applied on top of Deepseal 200 shall have the advice of
Deepseal Waterproofing (M) Sdn. Bhd.
II. Any tiling works to be laid on top of Deepseal 200 shall have the advice of Deepseal
Waterproofing (M) Sdn. Bhd.

6. Protection Gear

General products are alkaline materials and prolonged contact with the skin is best avoided as it
could give rise to irritation. To minimize suck risks, we recommend the use of rubber gloves when
handling or sprinkling our products.

PACKING

Deepseal 200 is packed in 25 Kg bag. Special packing in plastic pail can be arranged subjected to
additional cost incurred.

SHELF LIFE

24 months for Deepseal 200 in unopened containers when stored under normal room conditions.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Eye Contact
Treat the eyes with cold water. In case of irritation caused by fine dust, wash with copious volumes
of water until the irritation disappears. Seek immediately special attention at hospital or medical
center.

Skin Contact
Wash off with clean water or shower.

WARNING
Glove and goggles should always put on when mixing work is carrying out. Always allow for air
ventilation in basement or enclosed area.
