Noise reduction in the suction-based aircraft sink
Internship at Zodiac : Noise reduction on aircraft water Muffler
systems.
Objective:
• Reduce the noise during the flushing cycle
from ~85dB noise level
Approach
❖ Utilize B&K sound level sensor at three
different location of the system (Near Muffler, Sink
Near Sink and in front of the reservoir.
❖ Proposed 3 different designs changes to
Grey water pipe to
attenuate the sound level.
vacuum tank
1. Remodeling Muffler to absorb more acoustic noise Reservoir
2. Introducing flow spreader in the sink
3. laminar flow reservoir

❖ All three solutions were analyzed using ANSYS-

FLUENT.
