Teaching Philosophy
I strongly believe that every student is capable of learning, and deserves the best
education possible. In my classroom I focus on giving every student an equitable education, that
will help them develop successful futures. I find the best way to help students learn is build a
positive classroom environment. Student will get them most out of their education if they feel
supported, cared for, and that they are in a positive learning environment. I make sure I greet the
students as they enter the class, and have my expectations posted on the board every day for
them to reference. This way the students feel respected, and know what is expected of them in
my classroom.
I am a big advocate for literacy, and I believe every teacher should be incorporating
literacy into their classrooms. Right now, I am building my classroom library, and collected a
couple hundred books. I have also created a system where I can check books out to the students.
I want to encourage my students to read, and they will have more time outside of the classroom
to find time to find. I frequently find ways to incorporate reading into my lessons, so that the
students are able to work towards mastering the objectives, while building their reading skills.
I also work towards creating and implementing interactive, student centered lessons that
are differentiated to reach all of my students. Having interactive lessons that incorporate
technology, for example Kahoot and Quizziz quizzes, I am able to engage the students while
formatively assessing their mastery of the objective. By differentiating my lessons, I can expand
on concepts with the gifted and talented students, and I can scaffold for SPED, ELLs, and the
other students who may need the extra support. For example, I created and built an interactive
periodic table, where the students made the element squares. The squares included a picture of an
image the related to the element or a Bohr model for that element, the information about the
protons, neutrons, electrons, mass, and etc., and a research section. The element cards were in the
same format as the actual periodic, which made them familiar to the student and easier for them
to translate their prior knowledge they just learned. The ELL students would be able to show
their understanding through images, and the familiar format would help guide them through the
assignment. The gifted and talented students would be able to expand on the concepts through
the research section, and I would be able to see their understanding through the written portion.
