Character can be both taught and caught. A survey of 56 people found that 20 thought character is taught through what parents teach their children, 19 thought it is caught through imitation of others, and 17 thought it is both taught and caught. Character is taught through what families first teach children about right and wrong. However, it is also caught as children first learn by imitating the actions of others before fully understanding teachings. Additionally, people are influenced by those around them and acquire character traits based on observing the behaviors of others in their environment. Ultimately, building good character is a collaborative effort between parents and other influences, but it is up to the individual to choose whether to develop a good or bad character.

Character traits are valued aspects of a person’s behavior. The character of a
person consists of all the qualities they have that make them distinct from the other people. The person’s character refers to the moral aspect of a person. Is character taught or caught?
Based on the information I gathered, 20 out of 56 people said that character is
taught, 19 persons said that it was caught and 17 persons said it was both taught and caught. Character is taught because our parents were the first ones who taught us and molded us to become who we are now. Everything that we are doing in life is based on what we learn. Our family was the first one who taught us the things we should do and building up a better foundation of our character. It is learned by the people who practiced them. On the other hand, character is being caught. At the beginning of child’s learning stage, he/she will not able to understand what other people saying/teaching unless it is accompanied with an action. A child first develops their skills and character by imitating what they see and what they hear. In addition, it can be caught because we are influenced by the around us. We acquire character on the action of the people and based on what we see to others.
To conclude, character is can be taught and caught. Building character must be
the work of parents and the people who surrounded by us. At the end of the day, we are the one who choose if we are going to learn to have a good or bad character.
