Abstract

Manipulating Resin Composite for Multiple Caries : Class III and

Class IV Esthetic Restoration

By : drg. Martariwansyah, Sp.KG

Teeth and face disorder will affect someone’s appearance and self confidence. In daily
clinical practice, esthetics of anterior teeth is a common presenting complaint of patients,
which is affected by multiple caries, malformation, anatomic alteration,
discoloration/staining, and hypo plastic defects. Aesthetic in dentistry is aimed to acquire
better and natural contour, shape and texture on teeth surface. It requires minimally invasive
treatments with restorations that mimic the surrounding dentition. Resin composites are the
materials of first choice to restore anterior teeth. The direct composite resin layering
techniques allow greater preservation of sound tooth structure than indirect restorations.
This technique promotes a conservative dramatic esthetic change in a single
appointment. Clinicians require both technical and artistic skill to provide composite
restorations that restore function and aesthetics to blend seamlessly with the residual
dentition. The success in manipulating resin composite within the aesthetical zone results in
positive effect on patient’s self-esteem and quality of life. The wishes and needs of patients
have to be considered in the same way as esthetic guidelines known from the scientific
literature.
