Brief History/Background of the Company/Company Profile

In the more than 130 years since MOL was founded, we have continued to expand
thanks to our never-ending spirit of challenge.
MOL generates added value to the goods and materials we transport via our main
business, international ocean shipping.
Through ocean shipping, we contribute to the development of global industries
and to more prosperous communities, which is part of our corporate social
responsibility. Still, we have inherited this as the spirit of our company since our
founding, and we are proud to continue in that vein.

World War II: The Devastation and Recovery of Japan's Merchant Fleet

Japan's private merchant shipping fleet was conscripted into military transport,
losing a total of around 2,400 vessels and over 30,000 seafarers. While recovering
from its defeat in the war, Japan became a major trading country, importing
ironore, petroleum and other resources while exporting automobiles, electrical
appliances and other products.
Growing in tandem with the rebounding Japanese economy, MOL provided
essential marine transport, promoting diversification and specialization of its
businesses to ultimately develop into a full-line marine transport group boasting a
wide range of vessel types.

Competitiveness of Japanese Flagged Vessels Challenged by the Yen’s Sharp

Appreciation Following the Plaza Accord and Floating Exchange Rates

In 1973, Japan switched from a fixed exchange rate system where one U.S. dollar
equaled ¥360 to a floating exchange rate system. With the signing of the Plaza
Accord in 1985, the yen appreciated sharply from around ¥240 per U.S. dollar to
about ¥120. This caused the competitiveness of Japanese flagged vessels to
nosedive. MOL began promoting mixed crews of Japanese and foreign national
seafarers, and idled a large number of Japanese seafarers as part of its restructuring
process.

China's Commodity Import Boom Surges and Wanes

MOL's aggressive investment in the field of natural resource and energy transport
was successful. With the unprecedented marine transport boom brought about by
China's surging commodity imports, we recorded historic profits in fiscal 2007.
However, amid slowing economic growth worldwide and the oversupply of vessels
following the economic crisis in 2008, the shipping market stumbled and has
continued to struggle with ongoing stagnation. To respond to this vastly different
business environment, MOL implemented Business Structural Reforms in the dry
bulker business and decided to integrate the container shipping businesses of three
Japanese shipping companies.

Summary of the OJT Experience

On my first day of MOL information Processing Services I assigned as MIS

Department and I met my MIS Supervisor, Mr. Charles Macalindong and MIS IT
Specialist, Mr. John Valdepeñas after that he toured me and my co-intern inside the
MOL he introduced me to all the departments. After that he introduced me and my
co intern to Sir Rian the (BPIT Manager) he welcome us to the MOL Family. Later
on sir Charles and sir John take me and my co-intern to the server and discuss every
parts of the server room that the company has. After that one of the employee
request a help for Internet Connection Problem, Sir Charles show to me on how to
resolve the internet connection problem. Sir Charles/ John discuss on us and how it
happened this problem we discuss about the IP Address how it change and how to
identify if we have a duplicate IP on your Ethernet settings, Internet Protocol
Address (IP Address) a unique string of numbers separated by periods that identifies each
computer using the Internet Protocol to communicate over a network.

Using a Command Prompt in short (CMD) on the computer we need to identify if

it is duplicated IP or Preferred using command statement “ipconfig /all” the result
is displays IP Network settings after that he discussed all about his job here in MOL
after that he shows the Sonic Wall, it is the firewall that they are using here in the
company they used it for the company’s security system and he teach me on how
to block flash drive from all the employees on the company and he teach me how
to remote every employee inside the MOL office using Tight VNC software and to
connect we use Advance IP Scanner they are used by the company to remote or
monitor the employers who do some suspicious behavior like using a personal
emails and open some sites which is not included on their work and to control the
servers on the company, this is our daily task on our IT department with my co-
interns to maintain well their works mostly to prevent using personal accounts and
some sites that not belong to their works.
Day by day I’ve learned a lot of stuffs, being an IT Technical support, it was a great
experience for me and opportunity to know my limit and durability to configure the
problems.

Sir John discuss about what he knows on Computer Technology being an IT

Specialist in our department he always gives some word of wisdom on me, how to
take the risk and the good thing is never disappeared the tips how finish it on
troubleshooting, he knows a lot and I’m look up high on him specially sir Charles
I think he is excel god and he is so kind person. I really learned a lot of things and
techniques from Sir Charles and John and Sir Joe every time he discussed about
something new i enjoyed it. On week sir Charles taught me on how to do the
inventory he demonstrated to me on how to use it the inventory that they are doing
is just to get the specification of a computer then after that sir Charles gave me a
task which i will going to get all the computer specification of all employers on
MOL by using the inventory.

Also on the first week sir Charles introduced to sir Riandel the BPIT department
manager, sir Riandel was so kind and entertainer and then they introduced me to
the BPIT Team; sir Aldrin, sir Louie, sir Bryan, ma’am Janselle, and sir Adrian the
Senior Supervisor of the BPIT Department, all of them was so nice and kind person
to me and we became friends sometimes we hang outs on pantry to eat together.

After the Christmas and New year break, I came back to MOL on, 2019 I am lightly
late because of my sister’s death for almost 1 month after that I continue to finish
my OJT Task so the month of January sir Charles and sir John gave me a task he
said that i will going to continue the inventory and it must be done before the end
of the month of January, on that day I started the inventory and i assisted some
employees to their internet connection problem and we just finished fifthy out of
One-hundred and Seventy-four computers day by day we continue the inventory sir
John ask me to check and verify the backup files on NAS because he said he is
going to reset the server, so I did check it and everything was good and he taught
me on how to back up the server files. Sir John did the backup and i was just
observing him doing it. It took Nine hours before the backup is done, so I spent the
day watching the backup and while I was observing the backup I was doing some
assistance and to monitor some employees. It was a long day for me because that’s
only I did on that day. Before i left sir Charles discussed first the excel macro to us
and that was to amazing excel macro and the thing he made just to make his work
very clever I was amazed by that so after the first week and the rest of the weeks
we spent the month doing inventory and lucky we’ve done it on the third week.
After we did the inventory, we are back to the daily tasks which is to do monitoring
and IT assistance like availability of IP Address because there’s a lot of employees
every day that are having problem with their internet connection and sir Charles if
plain it why, so we kept on doing the maintaining assistance and availability of IP
Address every day. We also format some computers that need to be formatted and
by the request of the user and update the windows 7 to windows 10, after that you
should have to retrieve data files of users or the backup folders and reinstalled
drivers. Before we end the January sir John told me and join on him to buy some
materials like I said he told me and discuss what is preventive maintenance and we
discussed about how to start and to finish it well. After that sir John demonstrate
every parts of the system unit and he conduct some questions how it works every
parts. After that before we end the month of February we finished the preventive
maintenance with my co interns.

On the month of February sir Rian make a plan told unto Sir Charles to make an
OJT Plan for us and for the oncoming interns so the number one content of the plan
was to do a Preventive Maintenance in short (PM) to clean all System Unit that we
do last month and we add some tasks is to check if we have a defective functions
of Computers after that we manage to clean up every department like the NCN
department, IDN Export, IDN Booking, MOTSEE and BPITW.
The month of February, the second and third week we continue to inventory for
getting specification of every pc and we continue to preventive maintenance
because there’s a lot of employees are not done to clean their units. As of now we
try to set a vacant or free day to continue the unfinished task like most of them we
used windows 7 so we try to settle that as soon as possible.

As of now I only two weeks left on my OJT in MOL and I think I going to spend a
lot of time and those days left to enjoy my OJT.

Assessment of the OJT/Practicum Program

A. New knowledge, attitudes, and skills acquired

 A new knowledge I’ve encountered and learned, number one is

the hardware devices or some parts of computers that I’ve ever
know before we came in to MOL most of them the critical is the
server room of the office it’s too complicated to understand
because it’s difficult how it works and the second how to figured
out the internet connection problem using Advance IP Scanner
we also show alive or dead units using this software device it
shows dead IP after that using Command Prompt or CMD you
need to pinging the IP what you get, if it shows Destination
Unreachable it is available you can now go to the
User/Employee to check if it is duplicate using CMD the
statement that you need to conduct is ipconfig /all to show what
employees occupied IP if it is Preferred it’s okay but if it is
Duplicate he or she have a duplicate IP Address so you can
change it now what available IP that you get come from Advance
IP Scanner. The third is learn to Microsoft Excel, Basic
functions of excel he gave some tips how to finished it quickly.
The fourth is Inventory to get the user computer specs then how
to temp files using this statement from Run Administrator after
you run that, you can now delete some crash files or none usable
files, the subsequent or you can now proceed to google chrome
to go history to delete all time history files. The good benefits
are to browsing smoothly. One of the most important things I’ve
learned one must also be hardworking and should practice self-
discipline. Mostly I also learned to follow the instructions as
what the supervisor said and accept some tips and accept their
opinions and what he/she suggest.

B. Theories actually seen in practice

 I’ve seen theories

C. Feedback that can be given to the company or institution

 The Feedback that can be given to MOL, I don’t have much

to say about the company but I’ll choose to state my
feedback. Well the company was so good, the facilities are
great. The ambiance and environment was really good. The
employees are nice and friendly. The HR Manager,
Supervisor, BPIT Manager, Operation Manager, IT Analyst,
System Administrator and the President were very
approachable and kind. The company was good in
maintaining their needs of the employee problems.
Over all I enjoyed my internship in MOL Company. The
company taught me a lot.

D. Benefits gained

 The Benefits or knowledge I gained, a technical skills

development and also gained my confidence to mingling with
the other people inside the company, in my technical trouble
shooting I improved my skills to discover some stuffs that I
didn’t know before I came here in MOL and I think I develop
and refine my skills I learn a lot about my strengths and
weaknesses during my internship. I embrace my mistakes to
become my strength to finish the task quickly. And I always Ask
questions, observe, and take risks to get the most out of my
internship training experience.

E. Problems Encountered

 They are various problems i had encountered some problems

particularly when trouble shooting our daily problem is every
user has no stable IP Address, and the other is temp files we used
this to figured out slowly browsing and to throw out the crash
files and the result is conveniently browsing. But most of them
are repeated actions and mostly I overcome those problems
because it’s just the same old routine every day, so I easily
remember my failures and finish it well done.
