Definition for OTA & PTA

OTA stands for Occupational Therapy Assistant and they work under Occupational
Therapist.

PTA stands for Physiotherapy Assistant and they work under Physiotherapist.

Both OTA & PTA works to help the people who are disable to move and can’t do their
routine work

 OTA helps patients develop, recover, improve as well as maintain the skills needed
for daily living and working environment.
 OTA perform site assessment for home and work and give assistive tools which
helpful to patient in their routine with injury and disability.
 OTA are directly involved in providing therapy to patients typically performs
support activities.
 While the OT executes and develops treatment plans for clients/patients, the OTA
puts those plans into action, teaching individuals how to overcome the challenges of
performing daily activities because of all injury, illness or disability.
 OTA monitor the condition and progress of the person undergoing therapy and
treatment.
 OTA encourage & assist the patient to complete goals and tasks.
 In short OTA focusing to make patient as independent as possible and at the end they
report back to OT.
 OTAs work in variety of settings including hospitals, private practices, nursing
home, schools and more.

 PTA is a health care worker who help and teach clients to effectively cope with their
limitation in their daily routine.
 PTA responsible for setting all equipment used during therapy, talking & preparing
to patient for therapy, demonstrating and performing exercises as well as hoe to use
their mobility safely and accurately during the session.
 PTA responsible to make SOAP note for the patient which communicate to PT and
rest of the team about patient’s progress, concerns and exercise what they have done
and what to work on next time.
 PT develop the exercise plan for the patient and PTA educate and perform exercise
with the patient.
 In short PTA Promote fitness, wellness, and maintain the physical functioning of the
body and its parts and at the end they report back to PT.
 PTAs work in a variety of settings including hospitals, private practices, outpatient
clinics, home health, nursing homes, schools, sports facilities, and more

Both OTA & PTA can’t prescribe the medications or can’t give or change exercise plan for the
patients. They have to make sure that patient can handle every day’s tasks such as dressing,
cooking, toileting etc.
