ABSTRACT

Flood is one of the major problems the cities of Cebu are experiencing. It affects a lot of people

and their work. It can be the cause for heavy traffic, sickness and the devastation of crops. One cause for

flood is the intrusion of seawater into the canal outlets that will result in the backflow of water. With

further research and investigation the researchers found out that the elevation of canal outlet is low

enough for seawater to intrude during high tides.

Flood is not just a local problem, but an international problem. It can even result to the loss of

lives, destruction of the environment and structures and the disruption of livelihood.

To minimize and control flood the researchers decided to establish a flood gate and reservoir at

Tipolo Creek which is the chosen study area by the researchers. The researchers will design a flood gate

and determine the capacity of reservoir. Eventually these structures will solve or minimize the flood

problem of the affected area.
