ABSTRACT
Background : Indonesia's health ministry data RI 2013, the prevalence of breast
cancer in Indonesia is 1.4 per 100 inhabitants, or about 347 000 people. Miller
(2008), as much as 16% - 25% of patients suffering from depression at the same
cancer. Research conducted Rebar (2015), after a patient diagnosed with breast
cancer in the first year, 48% of women experience anxiety and depression.
Objective : to determine the correlation with optimism of anxiety and depression
in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy which in the year 2018
Hospital banjarmasin Ulin.
Method : This type of research correlation with the study design cross sectional,
Non-probability sampling technique sampling type of purposive sampling, sample
28 patients with breast cancer. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate
Spearman Rank, Research instrument used two questionnaires Life Orientation
Test Revised (LOT-R) 10 items optimism and Hospital Anxiety and Depression
Scale (HADS) 14 items for anxiety and depression.
Results : the results of the analysis showed optimism and anxiety with significant
value of the correlation coefficient of 0.004 to 0.531, and the analysis results
optimism with depression showed the results of significance of 0.002 with a
correlation coefficient of 0.569.
Conclusion : There is a correlation between optimism with the level of anxiety
and depression in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in hospitals
Ulin Banjarmasin.
