Lubuk Bulan Waterfall

Lubuk Bulan waterfall is located in Koto Tinggi Kubang Balambak, Kapuak Intersection,
Mungka District, Limo Puluah Koto Regency, West Sumatra. It’s about 17km from
Payakumbuh city. Why is it named Lubuk Bulan? Because the water drops from this waterfall
falls right into a moon shape pond, so it’s named Lubuak Bulan. There is something unique
about this waterfall, as usual every waterfall has a flow of water that flows into the river but
not for this waterfall. Lubuk Bulan waterfall doesn't have a flow of water, the water that falls
into the depths will seems disappear. From several sources it is said that in fact the water that
falls into the pond doesn’t just disappear but because under the reservoir there is a long cave
that absorbs the water so that the water seems disappear.

Lubuk Bulan waterfall is 45m height. In this place the tourists can’t swim, they only
can touch the water drops with their hand. Lubuk Bulan waterfall can’t be found in google
maps, perhaps because the Koto Tinggi Kubang Balambak is an isolated area in the outskirts
of Limo Puluah Koto regency.

It’s not an easy thing to get into this place, there is a heavy track that you have to pass.
After you passed about 4-5 hours trip from Payakumbuh, you have to spend about 30 minutes
to reach the waterfall by walk. If you want to reach this unique waterfall you should use a trail
bike, even if you use your vehicle you also have to walk through footpaths in the forest and
fields. Because of the restricted transportation and facilities, this waterfall is rarely visited.
