WORK INSTRUCTION Field Maintenance


Department: Mechanical Maintenance Equipment

TITLE: CLEANING & REPLACEMENT OF PROCESS LIQUIDS/GASEOUS FILTERS AND STRAINERS:

1.0 PURPOSE :
This work instruction applies for cleaning or replacement of process filters (liquid/gaseous) and
strainers.

2.0 SCOPE:
It covers all filters and strainers installed at FFL plant site.

3.0 CHEMICALS INVOLVED:


As per service

4.0 HAZARDS AND RISKS INVOLVED:


Chemical Contamination inside filters

5.0 PPE’s REQUIRED:


As per PTW recommendation
6.0 SAFETY PRE-REQUISITES:
Ensure that equipment shall be isolated and depressurized.
7.0 EXECUTION / OPERATING STEPS:
7.1 Dismantling:
7.1.1 Area Engineer Field Maintenance/Technician obtains work permit and arrange
resources require for cleaning/replacement of filters.
7.1.2 Obtain Confined Space Entry permit, where there is need to enter into the filter
housing/vessel.
7.1.3 Check physically all isolations and ensure filter housing/vessel is flushed and
depressurized.
7.1.4 Dismantle the head cover of filter/strainer housing.
7.2 Cleaning:
7.2.1 Remove filters/strainer element from housing or clean it inside housing as required.
7.2.2 Check the condition of the filters/strainer (Operation and Field Maintenance
Engineer).
7.2.3 Inspect the frame of filter/strainer for any damage/repair.
7.2.4 Inspect filter/strainer installation fixtures for any damage/repair.
7.2.5 Clean filters cartridge/strainer by air or water.
7.2.6 If condition of existing filters/strainer found satisfactory after cleaning, then proceed
for its installation otherwise replace them with new ones.
7.3 Box-Up:
7.3.1 Install new or clean filters/strainer in the frames as per OEM procedure with proper
direction indicated on the filters.
7.3.2 Remove any loose object from filter/strainer housing.
7.3.3 Check the surface of flanges.
7.3.4 Clean all nuts and bolts.
7.3.5 Box up of head cover of filter or box up of flange of strainer.

7.4 Work Completion:


7.4.1 Remove all debris.
7.4.2 Clear area.

7.4.3 Close the work permits specifying the job completion time.
