Highlights
In this release, the Matrix tool has been further enhanced to support following customer requested
functions.
• Multiple subcase results available in a solver results file regardless of what is selected in
HyperView session
• To query from the active contour results displayed in the HyperView graphics window.
Unlike the previous version, now users can query max/min results for component/sets/material
/property entities. The software will search the max/min values for the elements in that component
and provide single value and the element ID / load case ID where that value occurred.
The Matrix tool provides the ability to create Annotation (HV- notes) for selected column results.
From the right click menu, users can create or delete notes.
It is very useful to add and store additional data for HyperMesh entities, such as
nodes/elements/components which cannot be added using the standard HyperMesh GUI.

Highlights
The export and sync of conditional formatted tables in PowerPoint is added to PPT Publishing, and
images in PPT will keep their aspect ratio on both Windows and Linux. HyperGraph export has also
been enhanced with the ISO MME format, and 2D plots can be exported in the vector-based MS-EMF
(Enhanced Metafile Format).
Great progress has been made in MediaView: A new pixel selector supports the redefining of markers,
and a completely revamped Measures Panel allows the user to define and edit multiple measures
similar to HyperView, including the curve export of dynamic distance measures between traced
markers in real units. Curve values can be transformed using a tracking system defined by one or two
markers.
PPT Publishing
• Keep Aspect Ratio: The option to keep the aspect ratio of images in PPT for both the
first export and when syncing new features has been implemented, dependent on the
OS. Performing a live sync on Windows captures the images always dependent on the
size and ratio in PPT, and images which are shrunk to thumbnail size will keep the same
ratio between fonts and graphics as in full-screen mode.
In Linux, the user can define either the image height or width and the aspect ratio of the
PPT master template. The PPT Publishing ensures that, for syncing, the image
dimensions will be the same in PPT as long as the user uses the same settings saved by
HWD at the time of the initial export.
The new pixel selector allows the user to redefine the positon of markers, which provides the
opportunity to use report templates for marker tracing. When a Master Unit Measure is defined in
the new Measures Panel, the trace lines can be plotted in real units.
The completely revamped Measures panel supports multiple static or dynamic measures between
markers in movies with layout options similar to HyperView. The measure values and measure
curves can be displayed in real units by specifying a Master Unit Measure, which defines the
conversion factor between pixels and real units. This unit definition can also be used in the curve
creation feature of the Marker Tracing panel. This new functionality will make tedious manual tracing
and measuring of markers in videos obsolete.
By creating a 2D tracking system defined by one or two markers, the positions of markers can be
displayed relative to this tracking system. Features are provided to ensure that the tracking system
keeps its position on the screen and that the animation will only run for the time range during which
the markers defining the tracking system exist.
• The ISO MME format has been added to the curve export.
• The border color of notes can be synced with the color of the attached curve.
• Reverse displaying of X-axis values (from high to low) has been implemented.
• The animation cursor on curve plots always visible, regardless of the active panel.
Resolved Issues
• The issues with PSD output in LS DYNA BINOUT files has been resolved.
• The PCH file reader support files which contain both DISP and SDISP results.
• The frequency vectors for some PCH files are no longer imported twice, as they were in
13.0.110.
• The PCH reader now supports data stored in SORT1 and SORT2 data format.
• The problems loading report templates from previous versions with unit scaling enabled
have been fixed.
• If the "More Colors" option in the HyperGraph 3D axes panel is used, panels can be
switched without an error message.
• For H3D files containing results from OptiStruct composite plies, the y request list in the
Build Plots panel shows the complete list of all ply elements.
• The bug with the File > Export Curves > Apply button not responding has been fixed.
• The plot file check box in the Flexible Reports panel now works correctly with report
templates generated by MotionSolve.
• The label font size on the y axis of complex plots can now be increased without the label
entering the graphics area.
• Black borders no longer appear in 2D plots when all axis colors are set to white.
General
Comparison Tool
Improvements have been made to the accuracy of the 2D thick shell comparison for surfaces. For
the revised thick shell calculations there is now a matched percentage for surfaces. Previously,
overlapped was the maximum category and the matched percentage was always 0. The match types
assigned to surfaces have not changed, though, so overlapped will remain the maximum category for
display and there will be no matched surfaces shown.
To make the calculation, the matched area for elements is divided by two. A similar thing is done
with the overlapped category. The unmatched calculation is kept as-is, and the intersected category
is adjusted to make sure that the percentages add up to 100%. In addition, if there is 100%
matched for the FE, the surfaces are also set to be 100%.
H3D files exported from HyperMesh can now optionally contain match results from the Comparison
tool.
• Crash associated with corrupted hmmenu.set file. The corrupted hmmenu.set file is either
created while user is out of disk space or loss of network connection to the folder where
HyperMesh is writing the hmmenu.set file.
• Loss of vertical scroll bar while using EE entity selection list when it goes outside the size
of EE.
• Graphics performance and visualization issue with components containing both geometry
and elements during operations like translate or rotate.
The Common Model workflow has been significantly enhanced with respect to improved representation
handling and improvements to entity management.
Entity Management Enhancements include the introduction of user editable PDM Metadata via the
Entity Editor, enhanced entity update from PDM Metadata via the Update representation operation and
PDM Metadata synchronization from HyperMesh entities via the Sync Metadata operation.
Connectors
Grouplinks
Grouplinks are supported for hexa seam and area connector absorption. During the absorption the
top and the bottom side of the hexa connection is identified and the links are combined into one
grouplink per side.
This leads to more reproducible results during repeated realization because of distinct projections. A
typical example is the absorption of the bondline of a windscreen.
The Opposite Link option has been introduced for seam connector realization. If enabled it ensures
that the closest links on both sides of the connector are connected. There is a link check which
checks whether the links are parallel, this is called the normal projection deviation angle. This
option assists the realization if the seam is not precisely positioned in between the connected
parts.
The Remesh option has been enhanced and now works for quad seams. The new behavior ensures
correct t-edges and prevents the creation of free edges. The mesh quality has been improved as
well.
This option is especially useful for areas of the model with close quad seams, where the quad
transition may have conflicts.
All CWELD realization types have been consolidated to one CWELD (general). CWELDs with GS
node definition do support face to face as well as point to face connections.
CWELDs connecting faces and defined with a GS node can be recentered. The projections are
revalidated then.
Once a connector is set as being a HiLock connector, different HiLock Material Options can be set
per connector basis in the Connector Entity Editor. If the connector has been realized as Hilock
Material before, a material can be selected from the current model from a specially defined folder or
from metadata.
This realization creates hexa clusters between shell components and connects them via contact
definitions. For components of certain materials a heat affected zones is imprinted into the shell
mesh. The materials which get the special treatment can be automatically defined by names in a
file or by selecting from the model.
The autopitch functionality has been enhanced to consider closed shell thin solids. When enabled,
allows shell meshes that enclose a volume (some small gaps are allowed) to additionally be used as
input for the connector creation.
UID Support
Resolved Issues
• Seam Connectors which have been created with retain nodes option were wrongly
translated; only the line was translated and the test points remained in their original
position.
• When RBE2 or RBE3 elements are created on solids during realization, their rotational
degrees are fixed now.
• For CWELDs GRIDID and ELEMID with GA-GB definition a centered quad option has been
added.
• For the LS-DYNA hexa adhesive realizations a contact definition has been added to the
postscript.
Geometry
Resolved Issues
• Rejecting a scaling operation now properly restores the scaled geometry cleanup
tolerance.
• The solid > spin subpanel no longer crashes when using an invalid axis of rotation.
Meshing
BatchMesher
• Added the ability to provide a custom Output Name for the output HyperMesh file, or to
use the name of the input file with a .hm extension. This name is utilized in all of the
BatchMesher output reports as well for consistency.
• It is now possible to have a geometry file use the output from a previous mesh type of
the same file as input to another instance of that geometry file, within the same
BatchMesh session. This is useful for creating common model representations and one
or more domain specific representations that use the common model representation as
input, all in a single run. BatchMesher takes care of executing the jobs in the proper
order to make sure the proper dependencies are being met, regardless of the order of the
jobs are defined in the BatchMesh UI.
SPH
New options added to have more control over the SPH generation process. Definition of mesh
orientation will enable you to generate mesh aligned with model coordinates. With new options to
select volume to be filled, you can generate SPH particles in specific volume domain. Partial filling
option will enable you to define the level till SPH particles to be generated. You can define wall
clearance and wall offset setting for generating SPH according to physical requirements.
Resolved Issues
• Resolved an issue where the Preserve Edges tool would not unselect certain preserved
edges.
• Rejecting a scaling operation now properly restores the scaled geometry cleanup
tolerance.
• The solid > spin subpanel no longer crashes when using an invalid axis of rotation.
• Fixed a crash when using nodes as input to the line mesh panel.
HyperMorph
Map to Geom
• A distance may now be specified such that when mapping nodes, domains or morph
volume edges and faces, those entities end up offset from the target entities by the
specified distance. A positive value maps short of the target, while a negative value maps
beyond the target. This is available for map to elements, map to equation, map to line,
map to node list, map to plane and map to surface.
Morph Constraints
A new along DOFs constraint type is now available. This enables the constraint to fix one, two or
all three degrees of freedom for a node relative to a local coordinate system, or to the global
coordinate system. During morphing, the coordinates along the specified DOFs will remain fixed,
while the others are allowed to change. For example, fixing nodes in the r DOF of a cylindrical
system will cause them to remain a constant distance away from the z-axis of the coordinate
system.
Morph Volumes
When shrinking morph volumes, a new implicit method is available (in addition to the legacy method,
now named explicit). This new method is generally faster and more robust than the legacy method,
although it does usually require twice as many iterations to converge. The implicit method is now used
when morph volumes are created and the shrink mvols option is selected.
Freehand
• A distance may now be specified such that when moving nodes, the nodes end up offset
from the target entities by the specified distance. A positive value moves short of the
• For the move normal feature, the use all elements and use selected elements options
are now available for calculating the normal direction for the smoothed normals and CFD
corners options.
General
• When projecting handles to a plane in the Morph panel, there are now options to project
the handles along a vector, or to project them normal to the elements upon which they lie.
These are in addition to the existing option to project normal to the plane.
Resolved Issues
• Morph constraints on nodes which are being mapped to a line were disappearing from the
display, although the morph constraints were still active. This has been resolved.
• The legacy method of morph volume shrinking (now named explicit) allows curvature in
edges which have mid-handles, sometimes in an undesirable way. The new implicit
method keeps all morph volume edges straight when shrinking them.

Highlights
HyperStudy 14.0.110 contains several new features to streamline the user experience. A new function
and variable mode allows users to more freedom in the problem setup. Other tools, such as the
Pareto chart, introduce new ways to more easily explore the approach data.
This new function is designed to expand on the abilities of the commonly used function resvector.
Key features include spanning time ranges and easy picking of first or last request items. This
function comes with a dedicated GUI to aid response construction.
Pareto Charts
This is a DOE post-processing technique that presents the effects of the variables on a response in a
bar chart which ranks the effects from largest to smallest. These simple to understand charts are
an effective tool to present the results of a DOE.
Categorical Variables
A categorical variable is one which can take a list of possible values that cannot be ordered by
numerical comparison. As an example the color of an automobile may be “red, green, or blue”, but it
cannot be said that “red is less than blue”. A variable may be marked as categorical and used in
approaches such as DOE or Fit. These variables arise naturally in material selection or part
switching studies, for example.
New Icons
In the tables and channel selectors, new icons have been inserted beside the labels. This makes it
easier to quickly tell which items are variables, responses, objectives, or constraints.
After a multi-objective optimization is typical to interrogate the points on the Pareto frontier to get
more details. The Optima tab has been enhanced with a tool (right mouse context menu) to better
collect the information about these points in a dedicated GUI with tabular information.
Other Enhancements
• Added solver execution script drop down option for “Register New Solver.”
• The matrix edit’s “Import Values” operation can directly access other approaches.
• The three trade-off tabs are consolidated into one tab for more concise presentation.
Resolved Issues
• MotionView models can run active solution even if is not the first.
Highlights
HyperForm has been enabled to manage solver job submission and optimization runs in Physical and
Virtual HyperWorks Unlimited compute clusters. Batch nesting functionality has been updated to
handle progressive and transfer die nesting and double attached parts.
Resolved Issues
• Material assigned to sheet lost after Create Input step under User Process.
• Error message during drawbead creation using simplified line in Drawbead Editor for LS-
DYNA.
Highlights
This release includes a number of bug fixes, general improvements and one important enhancement
related to the loading of result files in HyperView. Please read below for more details.
This important enhancement allows users to load multiple result files in HyperView. A typical use-
case is a multiple loadcase simulation in which the user applies different loads on the same model
and outputs the results as individual result files. In such a case, users can now bring in all the result
files into a single model by picking the input deck as the model file and using “Add multiple result
files” option in the load model panel to import all the result files. The load case view of the result
browser will display each subcase and the result file to which it belongs. Any derived results will be
available across all the loadcases coming from the different result files.
General Enhancements
• A new “Small Deformation” option is added to the files view of the Results Browser.
Activating this option will change the elemental system results definition to be based on
model step instead of current simulation step for transient results at a model level. This
option is primarily provided to enable users to plot vector results on 1-D elements for
certain Nastran solution sequences (e.g. SOL 106, SOL400) that was not possible
previously. For other scenarios, use this with caution.
• Option to suppress arrow head for tensors is provided in the Tensor panel.
• A flat list of include files will be shown in the Model view of the Result Browser.
Show/Hide/Isolate/Isolate Only options are available through the context menu.
• Option to export only selected sets from the model is provided in the Export Sets dialog.
• Option to name external result files (resources) added via Expression Builder is provided.
• If “auto-hide” option is active, the notes attached to an entity will be hidden when the
entity is removed from display by a section cut.
• Free Body Diagram utility will support H3D result files, provided the file contains the
required result types.
• A few Tcl APIs to provide information about size of Notes and Legends have been added.
Resolved Issues
• HVTrans application stops without error while converting large ODB files.
• Exported H3D contains fewer simulation steps than the original envelope load case
leading to a mismatch in the Contour plot.
• Distorted RBE2 elements when corner data option is enabled in OptiStruct H3D file.
• Query does not provide correct layer information in the case of an envelope trace plot
involving Top/Bottom contour.
• Notes that are hidden by auto-hide option can be selected in the graphics.
• Visible only on selection method picks certain 1D elements that are invisible.
Solver Interfaces
General Enhancements
• Plastic strain tensor, Thermal strain tensor, residual forces and moment result types in
LS-DYNA d3plot result files is supported.
• LS-DYNA d3plot result reader enhanced to read multiple integration point results on solid
elements (corner data).
• New HyperView reader option for NASTRAN XDB Result reader “Support partial XDB files”
is added.
• Axisymmetric results for CTRIAX elements in Nastran and OptiStruct OP2 result files is
now supported.
• Consistent naming of direct nonlinear stress result type in OP2 and XDB results.
• Reader enhanced to read composite results and nonlinear stresses in XDB files.
Resolved Issues
• Issue displaying results from 3plot files generated by LS-DYNA version R8.
• Application crash when reading LS-DYNA d3plot generated from input deck containing
more than three airbags of type *AIRBAG_PARTICLE.
• Issue displaying results from UNV result file containing complex data types.
• OP2 reader issue with 1D element forces for CFAST elements in HyperView.
• Missing IDs error while reading certain NX Nastran OP2 result files.
We have added another out-of-the-box connector. Without leaving the HyperWorks Desktop, users of
SimData Manager from PDTec can now connect directly to that tool to browse and search for content
and to seamlessly retrieve files directly into their HyperWorks environment. The connector is bi-
directional. So, users can also publish files created in HyperWorks directly back to SimData Manager.
Highlights
Abaqus 2016 ODB reader support has been added for HyperView, HyperGraph and HvTrans. The
minimum Windows and Linux versions supported are WIN7 SP1, Linux RedHat 5.5 and SUSE
Enterprise11 SP2.
Highlights
In this release an important change has occurred in model set up procedure for ANSYS solver. This
change will influence if the model contains any ANSYS sections. It is required that users need to
carefully read this change described in detail below.
In HyperMesh 14.0 or earlier releases, ANSYS sections such as standard beam, shell, pretension,
joint, taper, pipe, contact, link were available under “Beam Section Collector.” In 14.0.110 release
onwards all ANSYS section are available under Property. If any type of ANSYS section needs to be
defined in the model (ANSYS card: SECTYPE) then Property with card image: SECTYPE needs to be
used.
Beam section collectors will now store beam sections created by HyperBeam. To use HyperBeam
sections in the model, create a property with card image “SECTYPE” and select “TYPE” BEAM. You
will get an option to select HyperBeam and choose the appropriate HyperBeam section.
This change in model set up may also require you to update any scripts created for any type of
section assignments or using sections.
It is now possible to read and export the information about ANSYS super element-MATRIX50.
Control cards relevant to super elements such as SE – Defines Super Element; SEOPT –Substructure
analysis options; CMSOPT – Component mode synthesis options are now supported as control cards.
If more than one material table, ANSYS keyword- TB is used in a material card, example: gasket
material model where different tables are created to define compression and release of gasket
material for different operating temperatures. In this case, earlier HyperMesh versions could read
and export only the first table. Information on all other material tables data was lost. Now all that
information is retained. A provision to store such additional table data as unsupported material table
is available. If such material model needs to be created in HyperMesh then user need to activate
“Unsup_Mat_TB” option and input the number of lines of additional material data exist and then he
can type in the additional material Table information. This option is more suitable for the import and
export of model that have materials with more than one Table defined.
• FE-Joints are now added to the list of RBE3 and RIGIDS. Thus if there are FE JOINTS in
the model then they do not need “Element Type” to attach similar to RBE3 and RIGIDS.
• Magnetic DOF: HM now recognizes Magnetic Vector potential degrees of Freedom – AX,
AY and AZ for DOF1, DOF2, and DOF3 in constraints respectively and Magnetic Scalar
Potential Degree of Freedom – MAG for DOF1 in Constraints. Select D_A in load types to
use magnetic vector potentials and D_MAG to select Magnetic Scalar potential
constraints.
Resolved Issues
Similar to other interfaces, the Model checker is exposed for Permas. We have added errors/warning
that can be captured. It is completely customizable environment.
For all entities, the Entity Editor is added for creation/editing. The Model Browser contextual menu is
updated with the new list of available entities. Hovering the mouse on the Entity Editor displays a
tool tip.

Highlights
In this release an important change has occurred in model set up procedure for ANSYS solver. This
change will influence if the model contains any ANSYS sections. It is required that users need to
carefully read this change described in detail below.
Entity Editor
All the HyperMesh entities in the Samcef interface can be created and modified from the Entity
Editor.
HyperBeam
The sections of the beam can be defined in HyperBeam. The beamsections will be assigned to the
properties .BPR.
The main advantage would be the 3D visualization on the elements to check the section and the
orientation of the beam.
This tool is available in the pull down menu Mesh > Assign > Midmesh Thickness. With this tool, the
thickness and offsets can be automatically calculated after the extraction of the midsurface.
Tooltip
Tooltips have been added to help the users to fill the different parameters in the different enities
(property, material, contacts, and so on).
Resolved Issues
• The BAR panel has been cleaned to support only the options supported by the Samcef
interface.

MotionView now provides the ability to use geometrical features such as edge and surfaces while
creating entities. Through this feature, an edge or a surface of CADGraphics and primitive graphics
such as Box and Cylinder can be used to pick origin or alignment axis for entities such as joints,
bushings and forces. A point or a vector entity would be automatically created and resolved into the
Entity panel.
While picking the point/vector, hover the mouse on the edge/surface to highlight it. While picking a
point, a red cross mark + indicates the location of the point being created if clicked. Yellow cross
marks + indicate other potential location on the edge.
− Highlighting of graphics in the graphics area under mouse cursor relevant for selection of
entities
MotionSolve 14.0 introduced the “NLFE Body” as an experimental feature, which allows you to model
non-linearly flexible beams and cables in your multi-body system. The NLFE Body is based on the
Absolute Nodal Coordinate Formulation (ANCF). Nonlinearity can occur for two main reasons: (A)
Geometric nonlinearity and (B) Material non-linearity. The NLFE body supports both. MotionView
also introduced NLFE subsystems to model stabilizer bar and a helical spring system.
This release includes a more robust functionality for the NLFE in MotionView. The following
improvements have been implemented for this release:
• You can now specify the maximum allowable von Mises strain for your NLFE component in
the model that can be set in MotionView using the Materials dialog.
• MotionView now allows you to define a global method of attaching a marker to an NLFE
body for defining joints, forces, bushes etc. This is achieved by defining an environment
variable HW_NLFE_CONN_TYPE. You may specify up to six characters that determine how
the additional 6 degrees of freedom at the NLFE attachment grid are to be constrained.
For example:
− HW_NLFE_CONN_TYPE = TTTTTT implies that the marker is fully clamped to the grid. The
grid cannot be subjected to any axial or shear strain. This is the recommended value.
− HW_NLFE_CONN_TYPE = FFFTTT implies that the marker is partially clamped to the grid. The
grid can only undergo axial deformations but no shear deformation.
− HW_NLFE_CONN_TYPE = TTTFFF implies that the marker is partially clamped to the grid. The
grid can only undergo shear deformations but no axial deformation.
− For more details, please see the documentation on CONN0 in the solver reference manual.
• Issues related to calculations of CG and Inertia for different beam cross sections have
been addressed.
• The ROD and TUBE sizes were wrongly displayed in MotionView graphics area. This issue
has been resolved.
• A crash issue when invalid values are specified for no. of segments for ROD and TUBE
sections is resolved.
• MotionView now can identify the correct GRID that needs to be used when an entity
attached to the NLFE body at that location uses a coincident point not part of NLFE
connectivity.
− The issue of end time setting to 1 s irrespective of the simulation time is resolved
− The force animation shows region output instead of force on each element
A new air spring model is available as an Auto Entity in MotionView. The air spring force is
interpolated from a table of force verses spring height and static inflation pressure, which is typically
published by spring manufacturers. You enter the spring trim load and trim height and MotionSolve
calculates the static inflation pressure automatically. You may include a bumpstop with the air spring
as well. The air spring and bumpstop force properties are read from TeimOrbit format property files.
• Load the Vehicle Dynamics Tools preference file by picking Load > Preference File from
the File menu in MotionView and then selecting the MBD Vehicle Dynamics Tools
preference file.
• Right click on the model in the browser and from the context menu pick “Add Auto Entity”
to launch the Add Entity dialog.
• In option menu on the Add Entity dialog pick “AutoAirSpring”, select single or pair, and
click OK.
The Full Vehicle Kinematics and Compliance Event available via the task wizard in MotionView is now
documented in the online help under the topic
MotionView > Vehicle Dynamics Modeling > MDL Library User's Guide > Vehicle Modeling Library
User's Guide > Events.
The Auto Entities for MF-TYRE/MF-SWIFT, FTIRE/HTIRE, and CDTire now support offsetting the
wheel/tire CM along the spin axis. A positive offset moves the CM outboard from the vehicle X-Z-
plane. In addition you can offset the wheel hub graphics as well.
Updated FTire
COSIN FTire shipped with MotionSolve 14.0.210 is updated to version 2016-1. However, in the
future releases of MotionSolve, FTire binaries will not be included. Altair recommends obtaining FTire
from COSIN and installing FTire independently of MotionSolve. When you run FTire with
MotionSolve, the COSIN initialization file (e.g. cosin_2016-1.ini) is read to identify the FTire
installation, so you can be assured that the latest installed version of FTire is used.
Note: Using FTire 2016-1 with MotionSolve 14.0.210 requires a COSIN initialization file in your
home directory.
• It is now possible to fit the screen display using the keyboard shortcut “f”
• MV-HST – The Import Model Parameters dialog now shows only the active systems and
analyses
• MV-HST – An issue with active analysis not being selected by default has been resolved
• User defined properties are now available for Plant Input and Plant Output solver array
• Template of type USER & ADAMS can be evaluated prior to all other entities using the
MDL *Set statement. For e.g. *Set(varname.pre_evaluate, true) where varname is the
variable name of the template entity
Resolved Issues
• An issue of “Add Contact” context menu not appearing for the Contacts folder in the
Projects Browser has been resolved. This issue was observed when the model contained
only PointtoDeformableSurface contact
• User defined properties can now be used with Solver Array – Plant Input and Plant Output
