INTRODUCTION
Currently, organizations depend to a high degree on information systems, which
are their main resource for the provision of services.
With the evolution of technology and the need to make more agile and reliable
processes for information management, tools are created to strengthen the
Database Management Systems, to store in an organized way and allow us to
manage information according to our needs.
In the following document we will explain the pre-installation, and installation of an
Oracle 11g R2 database management system.

OBJECTIVES

Structuring the installation process of a Database Management System in the

Municipal Mayor's Office of San Antonio del Sena.

SMBD INSTALLATION

At the time of installing an SMBD you must first do an analysis of the

requirements and necessities of the organization, in order to mount the
and solve the problems and shortcomings of the current system.

Selection by requirements: It's about analyzing what we need from the DBMS. In
this sense some things to keep in mind can be:

Database size. A large size database requires and therefore a very powerful
software for managing it, could also raise the fact of separating data into different
drives or even machines that might require clusters or distributed systems.

Connectivity. If we need the database to be accessible from the Internet,

an Intranet or even if a single access device would suffice.

Number of users. A large number of users require advanced security controls.

Number of simultaneous connections is usually the high point of requirements, as a
large number of simultaneous connections involves SGBD with large database
administration installation and configuration of a Database Manager System with
concurrent work capabilities and few Systems would be able to accept it.

Use of hardware. It may be the hardware itself of the

the company that pre-determines the selection because they are limited by it.

Company policy. For example, if the company has an impulse policy of

free software or agreements with specific software companies.
PREINSTALLATION SMBD
After having clear the needs and having selected the SMBD that we are going to
install , we must comply with some Hardware and Software requirements.

Operating system. In our case we will use 64-bit Microsoft Windows Server 2008
Enterprise.

Packages or pre-installed applications. In Windows, as in our case, it is

necessary to have some updates (such as its classic Service Pack) or third party
software that is required (such as the Java machine, the .Net Framework or a
specific web server).

RAM memory. Since we will use everything in 64 bits, both the processor, and the
the operating system as Oracle itself, we will not have the limit of 3GB of
memory of 32-bit systems, so we can establish for Oracle
more than 3GB which will significantly improve the performance of the base
of data. In our case we will use a server with 10GB of RAM. More
below we will explain how to increase the use of Oracle's RAM.

The operating system will use about 1.5GB and Oracle will use all the one we
assign to it,
therefore, as a minimum, we must have about 3GB of RAM in the
team.

Processor. To install Oracle Database 11g 64-bit we will need a

64-bit processor, currently almost all processors are 64-bit. In
our case will use a computer with a 64-bit Intel Core i7 processor.
Obviously, if our Oracle Database server is going to be used in a
with long availability and performance requirements, with a large number of
users connected at the same time to the database, it is possible that we need to
high-end processors like Intel's Xeon. But always 64-bit.
Hard drive. Note that on x64 (64-bit) systems Microsoft
recommends that you have about 35GB of free hard disk space for the file.
pagination. This data is important to make the corresponding forecast of
disk space. We'll need, approximately:
 5GB for Windows Server 2008 operating system.
 30GB for the paging file (may vary depending on the RAM of the page).
equipment).
 5GB for Oracle Database 11g R2 software.
 10GB for equipment applications.
 XXGB the necessary space for Oracle data files, this
will depend on the size of our database.
In total we'll need at least 50GB of disk space.
Network requirements. The equipment may be required to have a specific
function
such as being a domain server, or having a particular connectivity
(as a fixed IP address). Incompatibilities. Sometimes products are indicated
with which there are compatibility problems.

SMBD selection: before the installation we will select the SMBD that more
suits our needs in our case we will perform the installation
of Oracle 11g R2.

Failures in the process

Even if you have prepared the process there is the possibility of generating faults,
sometimes the error message presented by the installer is not clear enough, so it is
advisable to look for the record of the installation. This file allows you to find the
causes of the specific problem. In general terms, the following information is
presented in summary form:
-General summary of the installation
-Configuration of the equipment
-Installed characteristics (if the process was achieved)
-Installation Version
-Location of configuration files
-Details of the execution
-Rules
-Errors found

ORACLE 11G INSTALLATION

Insert the Oracle installation disk and start the installation

1. Log on to the computer as a local administrator or as a user who is a member of

the group of administrators.

2. Close all other applications.

3. Insert the disc into the CD drive.

4. If the installation program does not start automatically, select Start > Run and
type N:\setup.exe, where N is the drive letter. The Configure Security Updates
page opens.
Security barrier and virus detection software could interfere with the
installation.

5. Enter your email address in the Email box if you would like to receive information
about security updates. If you are using an Oracle Technical Support user name or
e-mail address, enter the password in the My Oracle Support Password box.

6. Click Next. The Select Installation Option page opens.

7. Click Install database software only to install the database binary files.

8. Click Next. The Grid Installation Options page opens.

9. Click on Single instance database installation to install the database and listen to
it. Click Next. The Select Product Languages page will open.

Select the required languages and click Next. The Select Database Edition page
opens.
Select the database type. Click on Select options and select
the components to be included in the database. Click OK.

Click Next. The Specify Installation Location page opens. It is recommended that
you use the default names and locations, but you can change those values if
necessary.

 Oracle Base Location: the top-level directory for installing Oracle software. The
default path is suggested automatically.
 Software Location: the Oracle source path, in Oracle Base Location, where the
Oracle database binary files of a specific installation are placed.

Click Next. The Perform Prerequisite Checks page opens. It

will check whether your system meets the minimum requirements for installation.
Upon completion of the price requirements checks, the Summary page will open.
Click Finish. The Install Product page opens.

The installation process may take a few minutes to complete. Press

in Finish after correct installation. Checking the user name
It is necessary to check that the user name with rights of
administrator you are going to use to install the database at Zero
Elements/Direct Manager Server is in group ORA_DBA.
1. Right-click My Computer on the desktop.
2. Click Manage on the menu.
3. Double-click Local Users and Groups in the left pane.
4. Click the Groups folder in the left pane.
5. Double-click the group ora dba in the right pane.
6. If the user name is not in the list:
a. Click Add....
b. Enter your user name.
c. Click OK.

Reset
You must restart your computer before installing Creo Elements/Direct Manager
Server. After restarting, continue with the installation of Creo Elements/Direct
Manager Server.

POST-INSTALLATION

Basic checks of its operation are performed, such as access to the system, user
authentication created during the installation process, installed options, execution
of basic commands either through wizards or with scripts.
