    George Orwell was a British novelist, essayist, journalist and critic known for his dystopian novels Animal Farm and 1984. He was born in India in 1903 to British parents and educated in England. Orwell worked as a police officer in Burma and later fought against fascism in the Spanish Civil War, experiences which influenced his later works that were critical of totalitarian regimes and concerned with the dangers of state overreach and mass surveillance.
