Flags Of Our

Fathers
By James Bradley and
Ron Powers
Purpose
After the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor December 7th, 1941, America was brought to its knees, so the
purpose of this book as to show America's sheer will, soon victory over Japan, and American patriotism.
This picture is one of the most recognised military photos of all time. The author james Bradley Father
fought in this battle and helped raised the flag.
Style of the book
The author James Bradley uses a flashback strategy, to tell his dad's involvement
in WWII. He uses pathos because war is very emotional. “A dream burned into my
father's heart a clear, simple dream of returning to Wisconsin,” (his father didn’t
want to fight in the war but he was a real patriot)
Audience
The audience would be older people, or people who are interested in war or
history, If your not really interested in that sort of thing then this book probably isn't
for you. The is book also has a movie, but in my opinion the book goes into way
better detail about each guy that raised the flag and the battle itself.
Effect
Even though the author james bradley wasn't there I thought he did a good job at
telling about what happened in the battle of Iwo Jima and what the 6 men when
threw.
Final slide
I over all enjoyed this book but the way it jumped round made it kind confusing at
times but overall it was a good book, if you like history, and “war” books then this
would be a good choice. One of my favorite quote from the book is “Listen to me,
and follow my orders, and I’ll try to bring all of you back safely to your mothers.”
