Starry Night
Some might say this theme is basic, but we say
it's a classic. Take cues from the original
painting by Vincent van Gogh, and implement a
blue and yellow color palette in your
decorations. Decorate the venue with lots of
stars, lights, and moons to create a crazy-
romantic ambiance. Feeling extra fancy? Set up

Masquerade Ball
Have a classy and ~mysterious~ prom with a
fancy masked ball. Channel 18th century France
with castle decorations, chandeliers, and ornate
masks hung from the ceiling. Encourage
everyone to rock masks by hosting a contest to
see who comes up with the best one (and making
sure there's a great prize!). You can create DIY
decorations with cardboard, glitter, and colorful
tulle and lights (or score the amazing look above
with the Mystery and Magic Mask Columns Kit,
$259, Andersons.com).

Yule Ball
Make the magic of Harry Potter come alive at
your school. This theme is especially perfect if
your school has a winter prom, but it's also
pretty fun to dance the night away in a magical
wintry setting during the spring, too. Recreate
the Yule Ball with ice sculptures, fake snow, and
twinkling lights hung on the walls and the
ceiling, creating a night sky effect just like in the
Great Hall. To pull the theme together, make
invitations inviting your class to Hogwarts for
the night. The most important decoration? Tons
of Christmas trees! Cover them with twinkling
lights and fake snow to resemble the Forbidden
Forest.

Hollywood
For a star-worthy theme, turn your prom into a
red carpet event. Celebrate in style by creating a
starry backdrop by covering the walls in black
paper and decorating them with glittery stars.
Make a banner of the Hollywood sign where the
"paparazzi" can take pictures of everyone. To
make the event look extra luxe, cut life-sized
Oscar statues out of cardboard and paint them
gold and black to flank the entrance. You can
even drape a red satin curtain in front of the
entrance where guests can walk through and feel
like a star on the big night.

Carnival
To turn the school gym into a carnival, decorate
the walls with red and blue painters tape to
make carnival stripes. Add a popcorn arch at the
entrance. For the anti-dance floor crowd, set up
fun carnival games, like a DIY ring toss and a
bean bag toss. Add a cotton candy stand and
popcorn machine to the mix, obvs.

Great Gatsby
For a fun update on the roaring '20s theme, steal
inspo from The Great Gatbsy. Take a cue from
the book (and the Leonardio DiCarprio movie
remake) and deck out tables with shiny gold
accents and feathers. Turn a feather boa into a
Gatsby-worthy centerpiece. You can also create
an eye-catching backdrop with a tie-in to the
book to go perfectly with the theme.

Neon Lights
If your goal for prom is to create an epic dance
party, use neon dance lights to create a fun,
upbeat environment. The key to pulling off this
look is to have bright lighting, so you might need
to get the crew from the school play to help out.
Use a black light to change up the look of the
room and create fun, colorful changing lights.
Leave glow sticks on every table so when it's
time to hit the dance floor, everyone will have
the best time lighting up the room even more.
Decorate the entrance with multicolor balloons
and neon arches. You can make your own (or use
Rock The Club Electric Archway Kit, $159,
Andersons.com) to easily create a vibrant club-
like vibe from the get-go.

Happily Ever After

Create a magical night with a setting that could
be straight out of your fave Disney movie. Pull
off the look by decorating a castle in rose vines.
You can also string white tulle from the ceiling
and weave string lights through the fabric, and
hang lanterns to create faux chandeliers. We
guarantee by the time the clock strikes midnight
(or whenever the dance ends), some serious
romance will be in the air. If you want to go all
out, you can score a magical wonderland vibe
with this See The Lights In The Castle Kit ($124,
Andersons.com),or create a grand castle setting
with the Grand Staircase Kit ($139,

Haunted House
Ask volunteers (hi, underclassmen!) to dress up
in super scary costumes and set up a haunted
house adjacent to the dance floor. Keep the scary
vibe going throughout the entire space by
incorporating fog machines, black mirrors, giant
spider webs (using ropes or cotton batting), and
a completely blacked-out room to heighten the
spook-factor. You can also add creepy candles
and lanterns and hang black spiders and other
