PROCEDURE
Introduction (min):
Advance Organizer/Agenda:
• 1) Video
• 2) Laptop practice
• 3) Jump math workbook

Attention Grabber & Assessment of Prior Knowledge:

• Long division using base 10 materials
• Afterwards, discuss what students learned and write the steps on the board

Expectations for Learning and Behaviour:

• Students are expected to be attentive and participate fully
• I will remind students of the expectations by drawing their attention to the expectations

1
we collaboratively made as a class

Transition to Body
Body (min):
Learning Activity #1:
• Students will explore how to use base-10 materials to illustrate long division problems
on the computer program
• I will model how to use the website first
• Alternatively, we will review as a class using magnets
• Then, students will work in their Jump Math workbooks

Learning Activity #2:

• Long division games
• Long division bingo

Teacher Actions:
• Facilitates teacher-driven lesson while having students guide the steps
• Models how to use base 10 materials to solve long division problems

Sponge Activities:
• Catch up work (Jump Math, Grey duotang)
• Division & Multiplication Choice Board
• Division games

Assessments/Differentiation:
• Base-10 magnets will help the abstract concept of long division make sense
• Working on the laptops will help students learn at their own pace
• Using base-10 materials will help develop a more conceptual understanding of what
long division is asking students to do by bringing students awareness to

Closure (5 min):
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning:
• Is there another way that you can think of to solve long division problems?

Feedback from Students:

• Use a more discrete way to check for understanding

Feedback to Students:
• Thank you for your hard work and attention

Transition to Next Lesson:

• Next, we will be practicing through games!
