CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

A. Background

An internship is a program for student to gain more professional skill. The

important of internship is monitored is supported by the constitution in Indonesia

which is stated in the Act of Workforce No.13 year 2003:

“Pemagangan adalah bagian dari sistem pelatihan kerja yang

diselenggarakan secara terpadu antara pelatihan di lembaga pelatihan

dengan bekerja secara langsung di bawah bimbingan dan pengawasan

instruktur atau pekerja/buruh yang lebihberpengalaman, dalam proses

produksi barang dan/atau jasa di perusahaan, dalam rangka menguasai

keterampilan atau keahlian tertentu.”

Internships aims at improving on personal career development and can be a

semester, summer, or even year-long program. The important element that

distinguishes an internship from a short-term job or community service is the

intentional "learning goals" that the intern brings to the experience. An Internship is

one of the subjects in Business English Study Program - Diploma (D3) at State

University of Makassar. All students in Business English are obliged to conduct

internship in a private company, bank, school, or in institution field. The students are

given time two months to conduct their internship. As a part of industrial and services

see for travel is a company that need good human resources.


Based on the description above, the writer chooses PT. BIOTA WISATA

TOUR & TRAVEL as the place of internship because the writer wants to know about

how the trading company works. Besides that, the writer wants to know about all the

activities, the main duties and the function of the trading company in Indonesia.

Therefore, the writer tries to improve her knowledge in PT. BIOTA WISATA TOUR

& TRAVEL related to her educational background and applies the knowledge

obtained from the campus, such as introduction to business, computer program,

management skill, English for banking, English for secretary, and English for

accounting etc.

B. The Objectives of the Internship

Based on the background, the objectives of the internship are as follows:

1. To improve the student job experience as a preparation to entering the working

environment at the company.

2. To figure out about habitual activity that can be implementer in working environment

or corporation, learn about honesty, friendliness, creativity, and time management.

3. To get a job opportunity that is with study course that has been learnt. Such as,

Computer Skill and English for Secretary according to the subject of Business English

that has been learned.

4. To assist the student to know how to communicate effectively with another employee,

how to work in team or individually and how to face the costumer or public.
C. The Significances of the Internship

1. Theoretical significance

It gives contribution to development curriculum at BE; English for Meeting and

Negotiation Management, English for Secretary, Public Speaking,Excel for

Business, Introduction to Computer, and English for Accounting.

2. Practical Significances

a. To apply knowledge obtained from the campus, such as English for banking, English

for secretary, working skill and English for accounting.

b. To find out the process of uses application of Travel biota wisata

c. To get experiences about professionalism and ethic behavior in working area .


CHAPTER II

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

A. Brief History of Kantor PT. BIOTA WISATA TOUR AND TRAVEL

PT. BIOTA WISATA TOUR AND TRAVEL is a travel agent that serves umrah

and hajj trips as well as domestic and international tourism trips which have been

established 7 years. Established since January 19, 2012 with the address of the Head

Office on the street Abdullah Dg. Sirua No.226b Makassar South Sulawesi. And changed

its name from PT. RIHLAH ALATAS WISATA Become PT. BIOTA WISATA TOUR

AND TRAVEL in 2017. Starting only with a place in a small shophouse, the company

can continue to work and continue to increase with the performance of employees who

have helped this service company.

PT. Tourist Biota has many customers or consumers who trust the travel agents, in

handling various types of trips. In addition to consumers, employees who have long

worked for the Company are usually rewarded by the leadership of the company in the

form of FREE UMRAH.

Besides serving Umrah and Hajj trips, PT. Biota Wisata Tour and Travel also serves

various tour packages both domestically and internationally, serving domestic and

international airplane tickets, selling all operator pulses, internet data packages, electricity

vouchers, and hotel reception through the travel application provided.

Now PT. Biota Wisata is a large enough company in the field of travel agent services,

with potential and professional management and friendly and satisfying services for

consumers who use our travel agent. The founder of PT. Biota Wisata Tour and Travel

company is Hj. Waode Fatmawati, who is the Company's main head of PT Biota

WisataTour and Travel.


Founder of PT. Biota tourism is someone who likes to travel and adventure to

several cities and even some countries, because of his love for this he finally took the

initiative to establish a travel agent service company. PT. Biota Travel agent travel also

works with Garuda Indonesia, Air Asia, Merpati, Batavia Air, Citilink, LionAir and many

others. Besides working with several airlines, and working with hotels or coutages in

almost a number of cities that are often visited by many foreign and domestic tourists.

B. Vision And Mission

Vision and Mission are the ideal view of the future to be realized within a certain time

frame to support the organization as follow:

1. Vision

Be the largest company with the best quality of service in the field of tourism and

agriculture.

2. Mission

a) Be a transportation service provider with an excellent quality

b) Be a company that always up to date in providing comfort and safety for

passengers who will travel

c) Providing chemical and natural fertilizers based on N, P, K, Mg, Ca, S to meet

the needs of food crops, plantations, horticulture and fisheries.

d) Providing agrochemical fertilizers like pesticides, herbicides, micro fertilizers

to support the succes of farming

e) Be a company that always respect to employees, environment and community

B. JobDescription :

1. MAIN DIRECTORS

The duties and responsibilities of the Main Directors, among others:

a. To manage the company in accordance with the objectives and objectives of the

Company as stipulated in the Company's articles of association.

b. To carry out duties and responsibilities in good faith, full responsibility and caution.

At any time the Board of Directors shall act in the best interest of the Company and

shall consider the risks relevant to the Company in its decision-making and actions.

2. OPERATIONAL MANAGER

The main duties Operational Manager are :

a. Able to run an operational tour and become a company guide

b. Resolve problems related to the duties and responsibilities of the company or

employee

c. Maintai good relations with the sales agent (travel agents).

d. Make a program and set the price of packages, hotels, tours, and others

e. Give a warning to employees who violate or neglect in carrying out their duties

3. OFFICE ADMINISTRATION

The administration duties entail admin, logistic, and others that support the

administration as follows :

a. Maintain and updating the administration information including office supplies

and stationaries.

b. Prepare the meeting arrangement detail, staff absenteeism, and doing things such

as correspondences with other staff.


3. FINANCE MANAGER

Finance Manager are usually responsible for the following:

a. Regulat the flow of funds in and out of the company, among others: Checking

company accounts that have not been paid by the company / customer

b. Pay employee salaries

c. Pay for tour operations

4. TICKET RESERVATION

Ticket Reservation are usually responsible for the following:

a. Receive / answer incoming calls.

b. Receive ticket orders either directly or via telephone (reservation on line)

c. Record and check operational equipment to support the smooth running of work,

such as ticket availability, system functions, and others.

d. Issued (issued) flight tickets for passengers.

5. TICKET ACCOUNTING

Ticket accounting are usually responsible for the following:

a. Prepare and buy all the necessities for the office

b. Make reports on ticket sales in the form of daily cash reports

c. Provide a report to the manager what has been done at any time and make a

financial report journal at the end of each month.

d. Follow up on every bill to the agent

6. MESENGGER

Messenger is an employee whose job is to fulfill and manage all kinds of needs

needed by companies outside the office, such as:

a. deliver a ticket

b. pay company deposits / arrears (top-up, taxes, electricity and telephone)


c. buy company needs such as printing equipment (ink, cd, paper, etc.),

d. Office vehicle service, etc.

7. GUIDE

A free land guide which at any time is called when there is a tour

8. WAREHOUSE

The duties of warehouse staff are :

a. Store items that have been purchased and set properly so that goods can come out

on a regular basis.

b. Create a report on the stock of goods

c. Remove the goods according to the demand and needs of the project.

d. Give information as soon as possible on the product that has reached the minimum

inventory.

e. Oversee the timeless and cost og construction work physically.

f. Responsible for the work to the owner of the project.

g. Approve the daily, monthly report in line with any additional work or less work

financial settlement thereof.


CHAPTER III

SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION

A. Place of Internship

The internship was carried out at the office of PT. Biota Wisata, which is located on

Jl. Abdullah Daeng Sirua, Pandang, Panakukang, kota Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan

No.226B.The distance between PT. BIOTA WISATA and UNM Parang Tambung

about 7 km. And you will through Alauddin street, A.P Pettarani street, Boulevard

stret street,and Abdesir street to find the office of PT. BIOTA WISATA.The writer

was placed at Administration and Accounting room which is located at the first floor.

B. Time of Internship

The writer conducted the internship at PT. BIOTA WISATA Makassar for 6 weeks,

starting from 06Juli 2018 to 22 August 2018. During the internship, the writer was

placed at Office administration. The working days at BIOTA WISATA Makassar

office are six days effective in a week from Monday to Saturday and the working

hours started from 09.00 am to 05.00 pm every day, but at 12.00 am to 01.30 pm was

schedulization as the time to break, pray and lunch.

C. Techniques of Data Collection

Below are the techniques used by the write to fix the internship place and collecting

data;

The technique of collecting data that is used by the writer to arrange this report as

follow:
a. Observation

The writer collected data by using a direct and indirect observation to some

employee to see their activities while doing their works and also to see the operational

system in the office from the observations.

b. Interview

To gain data, the writer did direct interview by asking some question to some

employees who are able to give accurate information that needed for the writer to

complet the report.

c. Literature

Literature is used to collect data from many resources, for example: brochures,

books, catalog, archives, media information, and other related literature.

D. Office Facilities

In doing her intern’s daily activities at PT. Biota Wisata office, the writer used one

of the application system named BIOTA PLUS using all of the staff.
CHAPTER IV

OUTCOMES AND BENEFIT

A. Outcomes

When the writer conducted her internship at PT. BIOTA WISATA TOUR &

TRAVEL Office, she conducted many activities. The writer was placed at Office

Administration . During two months of her internship, the writer could not only get

experience and additional knowledge, but also more about operational system of PT.

BIOTA WISATA.

The activities of internship at PT. Biota Wisata Tour and Travel can be explained as

follows:

1. Inputting the income letters from other Company

Every incoming letter that to employee in Administration must be inputted

first into data NN in the computer, by the intern to be made a disposition sheet and will

be share to Account Representative (AR) . From this activity can improve my

computer skill with using Microsoft Excel when input the data into the computer.

2. Duplicate file to digital

Another task for the writer is to scan the Outgoing letter which will be sent to

Customer for use as an archive. All the scanned files must be set from the lowest to the

highest number of each letter by the intern to be saved to the computer. This activity

made the writer know how to use the scanner and how to fix the scanner when it get

error.
3. Duplicate File

The writer had to copy the document or incoming and outgoing letters that as

an archive for the Office Administration. This activity may develop the knowledge of

writer of how to use photocopy machine also to fixed when get error.

4. Making official letter

Each time the secretary will notify information, the writer will be required to

make an official letter about of invitations, announcements and others to communicate

between customers with BIOTA WISATA or BIOTA WISATAwith Vendor.

5. Making recapitulation for new purchase Order

Once the customer orders are made available, the apprentice will make a

recapitulation of the customer's order using Microsoft Excel. This activity can improve

the ability of writer in using Microsoft Excel application.

6. Numbering the Outgoing Letter

The writer was usually given a responsibility to give number in each outgoing

letter, and input the information of that letter according to the kind of letter into the

Microsoft Excel as an outgoing letter’s agenda.


B. Benefits

The benefits obtained from the internship are as follows:

1. The write can fulfill the requirement in finishing the Diploma III English Language

(Business English).

2. The write got direct experience of working world, as a preparation to entering the

working environment at the company.

3. The write gets similarities and differences between theory and reality.

4. The write gets an input to increase about habitual activity that is done in working

environment or corporation, learn about honesty, friendliness, creativity, and time

management.

5. The write can improve and practice the material from the college with the internship

procedure the office such as:

a) Implementing Computer Skill, the apprentice works well with Microsoft Word,

Microsoft Excel and Corel Draw. Also can improve her speed in typing and

design.

b) Implementing English for Secretary subject, the apprentice can speak to people

confidently, manage the letter efficiently, and have a skill in administering

people in office area.


CHAPTER V

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

The writer finally comes to general conclusions refering to the previous chapters that have

been reported as follows:

A. Conclusion

During The Internship at PT.BIOTA WISATA TOUR & TRAVEL for 7

weeks, start from 06th july 2018 to 25th August 2018, the writer learnt and understood the

work of the company that can improve and apply her management skills, computer

skills, communication skills and many others. The writer was placed at Office

administration and finishing tasks like Inputting the income letters from other company,

duplicating file to digital, duplicating file, making official letter, making recapitulation

for new purchase oder, and numbering the outgoing letter.

The writer also felt that she was like the employees of PT. BIOTA WISATA

TOUR & TRAVEL because the writer work by given important data, allowed to use one

of their application system, using the facilities of the office to complete her work and to

serve all social levels. Besides that, the writer became know how domestic trading

company works and operate.


B. Suggestion

To increase the cooperation between Diploma III English Language (Business English)

and the company, the writer gives some suggestion as follows:

1. The Diploma III English Language (Business English) should have a special

cooperation with certain companies for student internship particularly Travel

Agent.

2. Business English program should provide all the student with a basic

knowledge related with company’s needs.

3. The supervisor of internship program is expected to regularly visit the

students.

CURICULUM VITAE

ROYYA, was born at Sengkang In January 27th, 1998. She is the

only daughter of Mr.ABD. HAMID and Mrs.SITTI RAHMAWATI.

She has just one and only old brothers and dont have a sister. She is a

Moeslim. Her Hobbies are Listening to the Music, Watching the

Movie, Reading Novel, Book and News. She studied Elementary

School in 2004 at SDN 242 Bila and finished her study in 2010, she continued her study at

the same year in SMPN 6 SENGKANG and finished in 2013. In 2013 she continued her

study at SMAN 3 SENGKANG and finished in 2016. And also in the same year she was

received as a student in English Department, Business English Study Program, Faculty of

Languages and Literature in State University of Makassar.
