WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR YOUR COUNTRY?

History records, August 17,1945 as Indonesia’s Independence Day. After more than 3 centuries we were
colonized can you imagine how hard the heroes are to gain independence but there are other sources that
say that in fact Indonesia was not colonized for 3 centuries. The emergence of the 3 century figure came
out of Bung Karno’s speech to arouse the fighting spirit of the Indonesian people. Of course, despite all
that we are very happy for this independence.
August 17 became a historic moment and was very valuable for all the people of Indonesia. Not only do
ceremonies commemorate Proclamation Day or just hold competitions, there are many ways that can be
done to commemorate this independence day. The question is what have you done for your country?
every year we always commemorate the independence day but is it really the essence of independence?
The meaning of Indonesian independence is certainly not just an empty sentence without meaning. Inside
is a long history of endless struggle. From here we as Indonesian people must be warned that a struggle
carried out in earnest will surely get satisfactory results. The long history of the freedom fighters who
liberated Indonesia from the grip of the invaders is certainly not a matter to be underestimated. Sweat,
energy and lives are at stake for the sake of the name of independence. But you need to know we as the
current generation certainly cannot sit back and enjoy the results of the fighters.
We as young people certainly can still participate in struggling to maintain and develop the results that
have been obtained by the fighters. I have ever took part in social activities like PMR Indonesia. There are
so many benefits can I get from leadership, teamwork, respect each other and happiness. By joining an
organization and participating in social activities of course, it will make us aware of how we actually
make changes by going directly to the community.
Being someone who is active and has a high spirit of learning is a mandatory thing for every young
generation to do. If we are just lazy and don't have the spirit of learning, of course it can make us become
a young generation who will not have a bright future. We have a burden as the successor of the nation, of
course we must always try to get a lot of knowledge and experience. Armed with a lot of knowledge, of
course we can become a future generation that can be relied upon to develop this country.
As millennial, what we can do to interpret independence is to make ourselves a smart person. Smart here
means being smart in choosing social friends, clever at leisure and smart enough not to try narcotics and
drugs. It's not about cool or delicious, which is the reason why we should stay away from drugs because
there are no benefits. You better spend your money on a collection of your favorite items rather than
buying drugs that will spend your pocket money, buying drugs that have no form. So it won't look cool.
So you need to reflect on what you have given to this beloved country.
