BRIEF HISTORY OF
SAN JOSE
The village of San
Jose is one of the communities
which makes up the town of
Bulakan. The name San Jose is
based on the name of a saint,
although it’s still not certain who
gave it this name, what’s certain
is that the different communities
in Bulakan where named by the
priests who visited the country to
spread Catholicism.
The village of San
Jose is comprised of different
“sitios”. Sitio Panique which has
a name that is based on a tale
about a girl who lived in that
place during the Spanish era, the
tale tells the story of how the girl
utters the words “Panhik” and
“Aqui” whenever she has male
visitors with the intent of courting with her, the word then became “Panique” and eventually
became the name of the area.
Daang Estacion is a sitio which was named based on the fact that even back then
parades where held here as well as events during “Semana Santa” that reminds us of the suffering
that Jesus Christ went through.
Lungos which came from the word “lango” meaning drunk is another sitio. It was
named this way because within the area are places wherein “tuba” or palm wine can be harvested
and turned into alcoholic beverages.
Aside from these three there are other sitios which were named after respected people
back then like Sitio Pilapil which was named after a priest, and Cale Molina which was based on
the name of the old governor of Bulacan Jacinto Molina.
