Line fielding Time 10-15 min

Equipment • 1 ball per group


• Cones set up to create line
Instructions • Divide into equal groups
• Half the group to line up on one line, half on the other
• First person rolls the ball along the ground to their
opposite group
• They field the ball and roll it to the other group
• After students have rolled the ball they run and join the
back of the group
• Repeat

Variations/ • Have students attack ball


progression • Instead of rolling throw a ‘half volley’
• Field one handed
• Turn into a race
KTP’s • Get behind ball
• Fingers to the ground
• Pinkies together
Notes • Rink stage 1. Maybe bordering stage 2 when attacking
the ball

Pairs Time 10 min
Equipment • 1 ball per pair
Instructions • Pairs throw the ball to each other
• The aim is to catch the ball

Variations/ • Throw on the full or bounce


progression • Increase distance
• Have receiver facing the opposite direction and turn
around when the sender throws the ball
• Count how many catches without dropping the ball
KTP’s • Pinkies together catching a low ball
• Thumbs together when catching a high ball

High ball Time 10 min
Equipment • Per group
• 1 tennis racquet
• 1 tennis ball
• 1 hoop
• 2 cones
Instructions • Each group to have a leader
• The leader is to hit a high ball with the tennis racquet and
try to land it in the hoop
• Everyone else in a group
• 1 person each time is to run from the cone and try to
catch the high ball
• Throw the ball back to the leader and join the back of the
group

Variations/ • Use cricket back instead of racquet

• Points awarded each catch

Slips Catches Time 10 min
Equipment • Per group
• 1 ball (soft)
• 1 Table/bench

Instructions • Split into 2 even groups per table/bench


• Students are to throw the ball to the opposite whilst
trying to bounce the ball on the table
• This will cause the ball to skim off the table and simulate
a slips/wicket keeper catch
• Whoever catches the ball throws back hitting the table
and the drill repeats

Variations/ • Points/runs awarded for each made catch


Progression • Points/runs deducted for dropped catches
