A dredger is a piece of machinery used to clean canals and coastal areas without draining the waterbody. Dredgers operate by using hydraulic arms and rotating blades to dig mud from the water, which is then collected and transported by pumps. While both canal and coastal dredgers remove mud, coastal dredgers are much larger in order to work in environments like the North Sea, where areas and water depths are significantly greater than canals and lagoons requiring more precise cleaning. In general, dredgers come in two types that differ in size but both are used for extracting mud from bodies of water.

A dredger is technology that is used to clean canals without neccesity to drain them.
It is believed that such technology
will help to save Venice or other coastal places from becoming swamped. All dredging proccess is pretty simple but demands some sophisticated equipment. During the dredging the boat containing hydraulic arms is moving while rotating blades dig the mud which is gathered into the shuttle boat by the pump. However, there are some differences amid the canal dredger attributes and the coastal ones. Firstly, a coastal dredger is almost four times longer than a dredger used for cleaning canals. Also, the breadth of the canal dredger is 6,69 metres, while the width of the coastal one is exactly 14 metres. There is a huge distinction between the dredgers depth which can be explained by the area of their operations. In fact, the canal dredgers are much smaller than the coastal ones in all aspects and it is due to the matter that coastal dredgers work in the North Sea where the territory and water depth are immensely larger, whereas canal dredgers are used in lagoons and canals where precision and thoroughness are needed. Overall, there are two types of dredgers which have different dimension but both of them are used for removing mud from the waterbody.
