MAT Revised Study Plan

Questions:
• I don’t really have any questions, however I do need guidance with the
IRB protocol and figuring out how to get through the BSD IRB. Not a
huge deal, just something that needs to be worked on. I definitely want to
get it done by the end of November.

Study Design:
A. explore the motivational impact of different reading and writing
strategies
1. explore strategies that motivate students in their reading and writing
2. explore strategies that encourage good habits in reading and writing
3. explore students perception of their attitudes towards reading and
writing
B. How will it work?
• I will find different aspects of motivation in the literature and
incorporate those aspects into the literacy strategies that are used in
the classroom of my second placement.
C. How will research questions be answered?
• survey at the beginning of my study to measure students perception of
their motivation
• survey at the end of my study to measure students perception of their
motivation
• collection of student artifacts from strategies incorporated— noting
changes in work
• interview students at regular intervals throughout the study
• journal about what I am seeing and hearing
D. Study participants
• Students of my second placement
• the school I am placed with is Title I, therefore they do reading groups
twice a day so my participants could potentially be students in the
reading group I will teach for 1 hour every day. Classroom teachers
typically take the students who need the most help.

What I need to accomplish

• IRB protocol
• BSD IRB
• Get my next classroom placement so that I can talk to 1) the teacher 2)
the principal of my school.
