To Whom It May Concern:

Melissa Scherer completed her student teaching placement in my kindergarten classroom

from August to November, 2018. Her knowledge of early childhood education was evident in
her lesson planning, teaching, and student assessments. Her pleasant personality and caring
demeanor with the students was evident daily. Melissa would be an excellent candidate for any
elementary teaching position. I am glad to have the opportunity to share some of her fine
qualities.

In her role as teacher, Mrs. Scherer appeared poised and confident. She prepared a
variety of lessons that aligned with our curriculum and common core standards. Her lesson plans
demonstrated careful planning and preparation, mindful of the appropriate level of the students’
development. She developed and administered assessments for individual students as well as the
whole class. She successfully taught unit lessons in our “Go Math!” series, and kept students
advancing in their reading and writing skills through language and Kidwriting lessons. She was
able to meet students’ individual needs, and demonstrated a good knowledge of reading
strategies for the beginning reader and writer. She included a variety of teaching methods daily,
and incorporated the use of manipulatives and technology such as the Internet, the interactive
white board, iPads, and the Hovercam. She incorporated whole class instruction, student groups,
guided practice, and individual learning that kept all students interested, motivated, and engaged.

Through the use of various management skills and techniques, Melissa was able to keep
students on task and reduce disruptive behaviors. She demonstrated good judgment in classroom
discipline. The students followed her directions, respected her, and treated her as an authority
figure. She made meaningful connections with the parents, and was well spoken, professional,
and courteous when meeting and speaking with them.

Mrs. Scherer was always respectable and cordial to all school personnel. She is receptive
to new ideas and willing to work hard to become the best teacher she can be. I am confident that
she would be a welcomed addition to any faculty.

Sincerely,

Amy R. Henry
