Introduction

BSNL Civil Wing, forms an integral part of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited,
a Govt. of India Enterprise formed in October, 2000, world's 7th largest
telecommunications company providing comprehensive range of telecom services in
India.
Civil construction and maintenance is a pre-requisite for all economic activity and
telecom services are no exception. The Civil Wing too is engaged in providing and
maintaining civil engineering infrastructure which includes buildings, cable ducts, towers,
environmental works etc; required primarily for the Kerala Telecom Circle . BSNL Civil
Wing, Kerala Zone is an ISO 9001-2000 unit.
This organizational study's primal focus is to extract the corporate exposure in
understanding more about the organization, its performance; it's functioning, about the
various departments and the structure as a whole. The study is based purely on the
information and other relevant data and materials obtained from the organization.

Objective of the study


Primary objective
To make a detailed study of structure and functioning of BSNL civil wing and to
get a general awareness regarding the functioning and management of BSNL civil wing
and how the theories which we study are put to practice in the organisation.
Secondary objective
• To study the different activities of various department.
• To know the civil construction industry better.
• To see how the managers face the problems and solve the problems in the
professional manner.
• To get a better experience with the persons who guide and lead their organization.
• To make a SWOT analysis of the organization.

Methodology
Observation
By observing the general surrounding, the functional process, interactions with
employees. Work sites will be visited where the actual process of construction and
activities of various department will be seen and understood.
Data accuracy and reliability is more important than data collection. The two
methods that were used to collect the data were primary and secondary.

Primary data
Work and responsibility of the employees can be understood by interviewing and
interacting with them. This will help to understand the various department and their
functions clearly. Further discussion with them can reveal key functions and process
carried out by each department and the departmental interdependence.
Secondary data
Literature review
Company’s internal records, Quality manual of ISO 9001- 2000 , annual report,
website (official site & others).
The data collected from departmental manuals can add key information to this
report and will help to understand the process carried by each department in detail. Annual
reports can be used as statistics to reveal the present scenario of the organization.
Data Authentication
The process chart can be prepared for each department and will be given to the
respective department heads for correction. The rough report prepared will also be given
to the organisational guide for correction.
