The accepted digital signature consists of your scanned signature combined with your PIV digital
credentials (see below).

Steps:

1. Scan your handwritten signature.


Use a scanner to upload your “handwritten” signature.

2. Copy your handwritten scanned signature to the snipping tool and save as a JPEG file.
Open the document with your handwritten signature.
3. Open the snipping tool., and follow the instructions:
4. Click “New” in the snipping tool, and use your mouse to “snip” your handwritten signature. The
snipping tool will allow you to save your signature as a JPEG or PNG file, and will allow your signature to
be a readable size and quality:

4. When applying an e-signature, if you have a regular PIV or have already created a
certificate (digital ID) with your PIV-A card, you will be asked to sign with that signature
as explained here. If you have not, you will be prompted to add one.
5. Select “A new digital ID I want to create now” and click “Next >”
