1 Definition
The feature Connection of ISDN PBX to two Local Network Nodes (dual homing) al-
lows an ISDN PBX to be connected to two separate network nodes. To implement this
feature the Automatic Rerouting feature (”crankback”) is also required.

Interactions
For interaction with other features, see Feature Interactions.

2 Mode of operation
The feature Connection of ISDN PBX to two Local Network Nodes works as follows:
– Call requests arriving from the transit node are distributed equally to the two serving
nodes.
– If the link between one serving node and the ISDN PBX should fail, or if it is congest-
ed, the connection is set up via the other serving node.
– Call requests that have already been rerouted away from one serving node are not
rerouted back to that same serving node by the transit node.
– Call requests that have already been rerouted to a serving node are passed only to
the ISDN PBX. There is no further rerouting.
– If there is a tie trunk group between the two serving nodes A and B, this is used as
a second-choice route for internal traffic (calls from a serving node to the ISDN
PBX).
In addition, the ISDN PBX is given one or more special digits which identify it as a dual-
homing ISDN PBX. The special digits are placed in front of the actual directory number
of the dual-homing ISDN PBX (including the local area code in the case of a multiple
directory number volume). This extended number (<special digit(s)> <lac> <ipbxdn>) is
stored in the database at ISDN PBX directory number level. The dual-homing number
corresponds to the code point needed for rerouting. If it is not possible to set up a con-
nection to the ISDN PBX after the first digit translation with the “normal” ISDN PBX di-
rectory number, e.g. the ISDN PBX is not accessible via serving node A, a second digit
translation is started using the dual-homing number. The result of this second translation
will be either a transit node or, if there is a tie trunk group between serving nodes A and
B, serving node B.

3 Subscriber controlled input

Subscriber controlled input is not possible for this feature.

4 Call charge registration

Call charge registration is possible with:
– Automatic Message Accounting with Individual Call Charge Registration
– Pulse Metering
– Flat rate
Automatic Message Accounting with Individual Call Charge Registration (AMA) and
pulse metering can be combined. One or more call charge pulses can be generated for
pulse metering.

Charges for feature input and feature usage

The charges for operator inputs, successful subscriber controlled input and feature
usage are assigned to the subscriber.
The following call charge registration is possible:
– Facility input by operator (FAIO)
– Facility input by subscriber (FAIS)
– Facility usage (FAU)

5 Administration
The operator can perform all administration functions on the NetManager by means of
user-friendly applications or MML commands.

Feature authorization
The network operator assigns authorization for the feature when requested by the sub-
scriber.
The feature is assigned on a directory number-specific basis.
