Abstract:
A data logger is an electronic device that records
data over time or in relation to location either with
built-in instruments like sensors or via external
instruments.A data logger is a compact, battery
powered device equipped with an internal
microprocessor, data storage, and one or more
sensor ports.
Data loggers can be deployed in a variety of
environments to record measurements at set
intervals for up to years at a time, unattended.
Every data logger is supplied with a simple USB
for PC connection and travels with data logger in
the consignment. On a24-hour basis data logger
generates a report which includes summary of
transport condition time spent out specification
and trip statistics and provides date, time and
temperature. Data loggers equipped with sensors
which are used to take reading or measurements at
regular intervals of environment. The data logger
usually stores data for a period of time before
sending it to a computer which will process and
analyze it. Using data logger software, one can
download the data to PC in different formats,
mainly in graphical and tabular.
A data logger replaces chart recorders which are
used in olden days to record information. At
present, some data loggers interfaces with
personal computer and utilize software to activate
the data logger and view and analyze the collected
data, while others have a local interface device
such as keypad LCD .And it can be used as stand-
alone device.
There are different types of data loggers and the
purpose they designed. Mainly, four types of data
loggers are there. They are stand alone USB data
loggers, Bluetooth low energy enables system,
Web based systems, Wireless sensors.

In manufacturing data loggers are used for
powdered coating industries. In food processing,
monitoring cooking, pasteurization, chilling and
freezing temperature within food industry. In
general research, short and long term data capture
of a variety of physical parameters in scientific
and industrial research projects. Data loggers are
used in monitoring in buildings for temperature
monitoring and humidity in public and
commercial buildings such as museums, galleries,
stately homes, and ware houses. In public utilities
data loggers are used to monitor river flow and
discharge levels in the water and sewage
treatment industries. In environmental monitoring
data loggers are used to monitor temperature,
humidity, wind speed, and direction, solar power
and other environmental parameters in ecological
studies.
Upon activation, data loggers are typically
deployed and left unattended to measure and
record information for the duration of the
monitoring period. This allows for a
comprehensive, accurate picture of the
environmental conditions being monitored, such
as air temperature and relative humidity.
The advantages of data logger are it collects data
on a24 hour basis. And the disadvantage is if the
data logging equipment breaks down or
malfunctions, some data could be lost or not
recorded.
In future the newest of data loggers can serve web
pages and also for remote sensing.
