INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS I-78B

Series 78B Manual Balancing Ball Valve

WARNING

• Read and understand all instructions before attempting to install any Victaulic products.
• Depressurize and drain the piping system before attempting to install, remove, adjust, or maintain any Victaulic products.
• Wear safety glasses, hardhat, and foot protection.
Failure to follow these instructions could result in death or serious personal injury and property damage.

OPERATING INFORMATION SWEAT CONNECTIONS: Victaulic recommends placing the valve in

the fully open position before attempting to solder the ends. Heat sink
The Series 78B Manual Balancing Ball Valve is a manual throttling and
the valve body with a wet cloth or putty at the closest joint to protect
shut-off valve that contains an adjustable memory stop handle. The
internal components, and direct the flame away from the center of the
valve is rated to 400 psi/28 Bar working pressure within a temperature
valve body. Sweat connections must be soft soldered with 95/5 (95%

SIZING THE SERIES 78B MANUAL BALANCING BALL VALVE

When ∆p and the design flow rate are known, use the formulas shown below to calculate the Cv or Kv value.

Q Q
CV = 1.52 • Q in GPM, ∆p in feet of H2O KV = Q in m3 per hour, ∆p in Bar
√∆p √∆p
OR
Q Q
CV = Q in GPM, ∆p in psi KV = 0.01 • Q in liters per hour, ∆p in kPa
√∆p √∆p

When ∆p and the Cv or Kv value from the handle position are known, use the formulas shown below to calculate actual flow.

CORRECTION FACTORS
For liquids other than water, the flow values from a balancing wheel can
be adjusted, as follows:
Divide the flow rate (as indicated by a balancing wheel) by the square 1. Loosen the set screw assembly approximately a full turn, then rotate
root of the specific gravity. the handle to the desired set point.

Q with Set Screw Assembly
Actual Flow = Locked Against Pin
√ SG
This applies to liquids having the same viscosity as water (i.e. most
water/glycol m
ixtures and water/brine solutions at room temperature).
When the flow setting is verified or changed to the final setting, the
memory stop should be set (refer to the “Setting the Memory Stop” Ser
ies

section on this page).

2. Move the set screw assembly until it contacts the pin. Re-tighten the
set screw assembly to maintain the desired set point position.
