IMPhO 2019 House Rules

Any kinds of cheating and teamwork with other team will result in point reduction of both
teams

WRITTEN TEST

Preliminary Round

All participant of all teams must participate the written test individually. The written test itself
composed of 100 true/false questions on physiology of various human body systems.
Duration for written test is 60 minutes. A correct answer will earn 1 point; no answer will
earn 0 point; and incorrect answer will be penalized 1 point. Final point is mean of
accumulated point whole team members.

ORAL QUIZ

Participant should switch off the cell phone or into silent mode and, it is not allowed to take
photos and record a video during the quiz is in session.

Please refrain from whispering or prompting when the participants are responding to the
questions.

Please do not clap and avoid loud cheering until the end of the final round.

Under unexpected conditions, committee has rights to change the rules of Oral Quiz session

The top 16 teams from the Written Quiz will be divided into 4 phases with 4 teams each phase

Quarter Final Round

1. In each phase, all member from 4 University Teams will be on stage. Team discussion
is allowed in this round.
2. All team will be asked same question and will be given 20 seconds to respond in
WRITING on a white board to each question asked. A correct answer is awarded 3
marks while incorrect answer will NOT be penalized.

3. The Highest score of each group will progress to the Semi-final Round. The 2 teams
with highest score of all phase (not include, the best team of each group) will progress
to Semi-final Round. In total, 6 teams will proceed into Semi-final Round. In the event
of tie, the marks of written test will be used to decide which team proceeds to Semi-
final Round.

Semi-final Round

1. The Semi-final Round comprise of two phases of 3 University Teams each. Each phases
comprises 3 cycles, where in each cycle, one member of each team competing
University will step forward to answer question. Team discussion is NOT allowed in
this round.

2. Question will be directed to 1st student from all team where the question will be read
twice and the student given 20 seconds to respond in WRITING on a white board to
each question asked. A correct answer will earn 3 points with no penalty for a wrong
answer.

3. The Highest score of each group will progress to the Grand-final Round. One team
with highest score in Semi-final Round (not include, the best team of each group) will
progress to Grand-final Round. In total, 3 teams will proceed into Grand-final Round.
In the event of tie, the marks of written test will be used to decide which team
proceeds to Grand-final Round.

Grand-final Round

1. The Grand-final Round comprise of 3 cycles, where in each cycle composed of 2


questions. One member of each team competing University will step forward to
answer question. Team discussion is NOT allowed in this round.
2. Question will be directed to 1st student from all team where the question will be read
twice and the student given 15 second to respond by pressing the buzzer and answer
ORALLY after allowed by the Quiz-Master. A correct answer will earn 3 points with
1 point penalty for a wrong answer.

3. If the answer is wrong, the question is open for other teams by pressing the buzzer
only after the Master Quiz has announced “The answer is Wrong”. Premature buzzer
will be penalized 1 mark. The team press the buzzer faster can answer the question.
A correct 2nd response will be earned 2 points and Incorrect answer will be penalized
1 mark.

4. If there is no response from all team in given time, the next question will be asked.

5. Following question will be directed to 2nd and 3rd students respectively. After the first
cycle, the next 3 students will compete, then the third cycle of students will compete.

6. Team with highest score in this round will be the 1st winner of Indonesian Medical
Physiology Olympiad (IMPhO) 2019 followed by 2nd and 3rd winner. In the event of tie,
the marks of written test will be used to decide which team is the winner.

Under unexpected conditions, committee has rights to change the rules of Oral Quiz session
