Purpose of Integration Tests

Integration tests confirm

• BTS has been integrated correctly to RAN (Radio Access Network)
• O&M (NetAct) system has control to BTS for SW upgrading, parameters changing
and etc.
• Site alarms are activated in O&M system
• Calls and handovers can be done via BTS as planed (Note: project defines
needed tests)
• Voice Call, AMR
• PS Call
• Softer Handovers
• Customer can approve site
• BTS operates as planed

Integration tests do not test

• KPI values
• Network System level performance
• Handovers between separate BTSs or separate RNCs
• These tests are normally done by RNP team

Integration Tests

• Flexi BTS installation, commissioning and integration are done in one

site visit
• Integration is done very close co-operation with RIC (Remote
Integration Centre)
• Project MOP (work instruction) defines all integration tests that must
be done and results of tests that must be achieve before site can be
approved
• Test calls are done using test phones with field test display (FTD)

Integration Tests Process

• This integration test procedure is not T-Mobile specific

• Specific T-Mobile integration instructions are given by T-Mobile
project
• Refer also to Flexi BTS product documentation
• Refer to Test phone FTD instructions

Flexi BTS Integration
Remote Access Test
• Connect laptop to Flexi BTS and open BTS site manager

Iub Testing
• Confirm that Iub interface is working correctly between BTS and RNC
• Work order
• Interface is taken to “Note in use” state
• Check that BTS has active Iub alarms
• Check that RIC can see active Iub alarms
• Interface is taken to “In use” state
• Check that all alarms are cancelled in BTS and BTS is in “Integrated” state
• Check with RIC that BTS is OK and alarms are not active

Remote Access Test

Flexi BTS Remotely Restarting

• Confirm that BTS can be restarted remotely by RIC
• Work order
• Ask RIC to restart Flexi BTS
• Follow that BTS restarts correctly and all alarms are cancelled

Remotely Launch of BTS Site Manager

• Confirm that BTS site manager can be started remotely
• Work order
• Ask RIC to start BTS site manager

Remote Access Test

Flexi BTS External Alarm Testing

• Confirm that external alarms are activated in O&M System
• Work order
• Confirm with RIC which external alarms can be tested in the site
• Generate the alarm
• Check that BTS has correct active alarm
• Check with RIC that correct alarm is activated in O&M system
• Cancel the reason of alarm
• Check that alarm is cancelled in BTS site manager alarm view
• Check with RIC that alarm is cancelled in O&M system
• Repeat alarm test for all tested alarms

• Confirm that voice calls (AMR), packet calls (PS), SMS, emergency calls
(E911) and softer handover are working
• Call testing
• Location update in each sector (switch on handset)
• Confirm basic cell parameters in each sector
• Voice calls in each sector (3G to 2G, 2G to 3G, 3G to 3G)
• PS calls in each sector
• SMS in each sector
• E911 in each sector
• Softer handover testing
• Test calls are done in tested cell area
• Softer handovers are tested by walking or driving from one cell area
to other cell area

Location update in each sector

• Go to cell area
• Switch on 3G test handset and select FTD view display
• Confirm following cell parameters with RIC
• Primary Scrambling Code of the cell
• Carrier Frequency of the cell

• Checking carrier frequency of the cell

• FTD view: 4112 FDD Frequency Summary
• Freq shows carrier frequency . It is here 10737.
• RSSI shows the signal strength. Divide a value by 10 and value is
negative. Here RSSI value is 700 and it means –70dBm.

• Checking Scrambling Code And Signal
• ‘xxx’ shows the scrambling code that you are in.
• ‘zzz’ shows the next available scrambling code.
• ‘y’ shows the signal strength you are receiving from the respective
scrambling codes.
• Small value indicates ‘stronger’ signal strength and bigger value
indicates ‘weaker’ signal strength.
• ‘a’ indicates active cell and ‘m’ indicates monitoring to neighbor cell or
cells.

Voice calls in each sector (3G to 2G, 2G to 3G, 3G to 3G)
• Make the followings calls and record results
• From 3G to 2G number
• From 2G to 3G
• From 3G to 3G
• Check that voice quality is good. If voice quality is not good start to do
troubleshooting with RIC.

SMS
• Send SMS to from 3G phone to 3G phone and record results

E911 testing in each sector

• Make emergency test call (E911) as area instructions of project (MOP)
tell to do it and record the results

PS calls in each sector

• PS call downlink test is done by downloading file from ftp server or
other defined web location
• PS call uplink test is done by uploading file to ftp server or other
defined web location
• PS test call is done as area instructions of project (MOP) tell to do it
and record the results

Softer Handover Calls

• FTD view: 4113 FDD intra freq neigh

• Softer handover is tested walking or driving from one cell to other
• Cell 1 to Cell 2, Cell 2 to Cell 3, Cell 3 to Cell1
And
• Cell 1 to Cell 3, Cell 3 to Cell 2, Cell 2 to Cell1

• A handover is successfully made

• When the scrambling code at ‘zzz’ appears at ‘xxx’
• The neighbor cell ‘m” comes as active cell ‘a”

Checking Scrambling Code And Signal
