Prayer of Blessing
The Bishop says
Lord, we bless you for you alone are holy,
and because in your compassion for sinners
you sent into the world your Son, Jesus Christ,
the author and perfecter of holiness.
He sent the Spirit to sustain his newborn Church,
a voice that teaches us the secrets of holiness,
a breeze that strengthens and refreshes,
a fire that sears our hearts in love,
the seed of God that yields a harvest of grace.
Today we praise you
for the gifts of the Spirit bestowed on John Paul the Second,
in whose honour we dedicate this exhibit.
May we follow in the footsteps of the Lord,
keeping before us the example of Blessed John Paul the Second,
and grow to a maturity
measured not by nature, but by the fullness of Christ.
May we proclaim his Gospel by word and deed
and, shouldering our crosses daily,
expend ourselves for others in your service.
As we carry out our earthly duties,
may we be filled with the Spirit of Christ
and keep our eyes fixed on the glories of heaven,
where you, Father, receive those who will reign with your Son,
for ever and ever.
The people answer Amen.
If there is a ribbon at the entrance of the exhibit space, it is cut. Holy water is presented to the Bishop and he sprinkles
himself, the people, and the exhibit with it as an appropriate song is sung. In front of the prayer wall, the Bishop
concludes the Rite of Blessing.

has graciously given you the gift of their patronage.

for God was with him.
We are witnesses of all that he did
both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem.
They put him to death by hanging him on a tree.
This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible,
not to all the people, but to us,
the witnesses chosen by God in advance,
who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
He commissioned us to preach to the people
and testify that he is the one appointed by God
as judge of the living and the dead.
To him all the prophets bear witness,
that everyone who believes in him
will receive forgiveness of sins through his name.”
While Peter was still speaking these things,
the holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the word.
The people answer Thanks be to God.

Introduction to the Celebration
Bishop Nes introduces the Mass
Brothers and sisters in Christ,
we are gathered here for the Eucharist as His holy Church
to listen to His Word and share in His sacrificial meal.
This event remembers the holiness of the Blessed John Paul II.
All of us are called to holiness,
for we are all made in the image and likeness of a holy God,
purified and redeemed by the holy sacrifice of the Lord,
and continually sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
We should be nation of of blesseds and saints,
a country of holy men and women,
Christians who live in faith, hope and love,
who stand up for the values of the gospel, for truth and social justice,
who serve and help one another,
who lift up the poor and oppressed,
and who help build up the reign of God in the world.
May this Eucharist renew our union with Christ
and may it help us become more and more like him
and so become his holy people who do his holy work.
11
Act of Penitence
The priest invites the people to recall their sins to repent of them in silence with
Gathered together in Christ as his holy Church,
let us ask forgiveness with confidence,
for God is full of gentleness and compassion.
A pause for silent reflection follows. After the silence, the Bishop says
Lord Jesus, you came to gather the nations
into the peace of God’s kingdom: Lord, have mercy.
The people answer Lord, have mercy.
The Bishop says
You come in word and sacrament to strengthen us in holiness:
Christ, have mercy.
The people answer Christ, have mercy.
The Bishop says
You will come in glory with salvation for your people:
Lord, have mercy.
The people answer Lord, have mercy.
The Bishop then says
May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.
The people answer Amen.
Gloria
The Gloria is sung.
Opening Prayer
The Bishop, with hands joined, sings or says
Let us pray.
G
od our Father,
may your Church always be your holy people,
united as you are one with the Son and the Holy Spirit.
May it be for all the world a sign of your unity and holiness,
as it grows to perfection in your love.

Liturgy of the Word
Introduction to Reading I

to whom he gives a new heart and a new spirit.
We are God’s people and he is our God.
Reading I Ezek 36:24-28
A reading from the book of the prophet Ezekiel.
13
Introduction to Reading II
The commentator says
Through the Paschal Mystery which we experience in the sacraments,
we have been made clean, sealed with the Holy Spirit
and we have become part of Christ as his Church.
By this we are saved and we become heirs of God’s kingdom.
Reading II Eph 1:3-14
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians.
Gospel Jn 15:18
The deacon/priest says or sings
The Lord be with you.
The people answer
And also with you.
The deacon/priest says or sings
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John.
The people answer
Glory to you, Lord.
The deacon or priest makes small signs of the cross with his thumb on the book, on his forehead, lips and chest. All
make small signs of the cross on their forehead, lips and chest. If incense is used, the deacon or priest incenses the
book of gospels.
The gospel is proclaimed.
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.
He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit,
and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.
You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.
Remain in me, as I remain in you.
Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own
unless it remains on the vine,
so neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit,
because without me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me
will be thrown out like a branch and wither;
people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be
15
burned.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you,
ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.
By this is my Father glorified,
that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.
Profession of Faith
The Bishop from the chair initiates the common recitation of the creed.
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
17
to the Lord.
18
Liturgy of the Eucharist
Preparation of Gifts
The song at the preparation of the gifts begins and lasts until after the priest has washed his hands.
Meanwhile, the ministers place the corporal, the chalice and the missal on the altar and some members of the faithful
bring forward the gifts of bread and wine and other gifts for the needs of the church and of the poor. The Bishop,
assisted by the servers, receives the gifts. The gifts for the church and for the poor are placed at the side of the sanctuary.
The ciboria containing the bread are placed on the altar.
The Bishop, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and holding it slightly raised above the altar, says
inaudibly
Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.
Through your goodness we have this bread to offer,
which earth has given and human hands have made.
It will become for us the bread of life.
Then he places the paten with the bread on the corporal.
If there is no singing at this part, the Bishop says the prayer in an audible voice, then the people may respond
Blessed be God for ever.
The deacon or concelebrating priest or the Bishop pours wine and a little water into the chalice, saying inaudibly
By this mystery of this water and wine,
may we come to share in the divinity of Christ,
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
The Bishop takes the chalice and holding it slightly raised above the altar, says inaudibly
Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.
Through your goodness we have this wine to offer,
fruit of the vine and work of human hands.
It will become our spiritual drink.
Then he places the chalice on the corporal.
If there is no singing and the Bishop says the prayer in an audible voice, then the people may respond
Blessed be God for ever.
19
Prayer over the Gifts
Standing at the center of the altar, facing the people, the Bishop extends and then joins his hands, saying
Pray, brethren*,
that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God,
the almighty Father.
The people respond
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good and the good of all His Church.
With hands extended, the Bishop says the prayer.
20
Eucharistic Prayer for Masses for Various Needs and Occasions III:
Jesus, Way to the Father
The Bishop, with hands outstretched, says The Lord be with you.
The people answer And also with you.
The Bishop, raising his outstretched hands, says Lift up your hearts.
The people answer We lift them up to the Lord.
The Bishop, with hands outstretched, says
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
The people answer
It is right to give him thanks and praise.
The Bishop continues with the preface with hands extended
21
The Bishop, with hands extended, says
22
Then, he continues
When supper was ended, he took the cup.
The Bishop takes the chalice and raising it a little above the altar, continues
again he gave you thanks
and, handing the cup to his disciples, he said:
He bows slightly
TAKE THIS ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT:
THIS IS THE CUP OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND EVERLASTING COVENANT.
IT WILL BE SHED FOR YOU AND FOR ALL
SO THAT SINS MAY BE FORGIVEN.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
He shows the chalice to the people, places the chalice on the altar and genuflects in adoration.
Then he says
Let us proclaim the mystery of faith:
Everyone proclaims the mystery of faith through a song.
Then, with hands extended, the Bishop says
Bishop with concelebrants
23
Bishop or one Concelebrant
A lmighty Father,
by our sharing in this mystery
enliven us with your Spirit
and conform us to the image of your Son.
Strengthen the bonds of our communion
with Benedict, our pope, Honesto, our bishop,
with all the bishops, priests, and deacons,
and all your holy people.
24
The Bishop takes the chalice and paten with the consecrated host and lifting them up (until after the Amen), sings or
says the doxology
Bishop alone or with concelebrants
Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever.
The people give their assent by singing or saying
Amen.
Communion Rite
Lord’s Prayer
The Bishop sets down the chalice and paten and with hands joined, sings or says
Jesus taught us to call God our Father,
and so we have the courage to say:
Everyone sings or recites the Lord’s Prayer. The Bishop extends his hands
Our Father in heaven,
holy be your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the test
but deliver us from evil.
With hands extended, the Bishop continues alone with the embolism
Deliver us, Lord, from every evil
and grant us peace in our day.
In your mercy keep us free from sin
and protect us from all anxiety
as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior,
Jesus Christ.
He joins his hands.
The people end the prayer with the doxology
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours,
now and forever.
25
Rite of Peace
Then, the Bishop, with hands extended, says aloud
Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles:
I leave you peace, my peace I give you.
Look not on our sins but on the faith of your Church,
and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom
He joins his hands.
where you live forever and ever.
The people answer
Amen.
The Bishop, extending and joining his hands, adds
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
The people answer
And also with you.
Then the deacon or the Bishop may add
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
All make an appropriate sign of peace.
Breaking of Bread
After a comfortable time for exchanging signs of peace, the Agnus Dei is sung or recited
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:
grant us peace.
The Bishop, meanwhile, takes the host and breaks it over the paten. He places a small piece in the chalice, saying
inaudibly
May this mingling of the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.
26
Communion
The Bishop genuflects. Taking the host , he raises it slightly over the paten and, facing the people, says aloud
This is the Lamb of God,
who takes away the sins of the world.
Happy are those who are called to his supper.
He adds, with the people
Lord, I am not worthy to receive you
but only say the word and I shall be healed.
Facing the altar, the priest says inaudibly
May the body of Christ bring me to everlasting life.
He reverently consumes the body of Christ. Then he takes the chalice and says inaudibly
May the blood of Christ bring me to everlasting life.
He reverently drinks the blood of Christ.
The bell may be rung to signal the start of the communion of the people.
The vessels are cleansed by the priest or deacon or acolyte or duly delegated minister after the communion or after the
Mass, if possible at the side table. Meanwhile, he says inaudibly
Lord, may I receive these gifts in purity of heart.
May they bring me healing and strength, now and for ever.
G
od our Father,
you comfort and encourage your Church in this sacrament;
keep us faithful to Christ that our work on earth
may build your eternal kingdom in freedom.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
The people respond Amen.

Facing the people, the Bishop extends his hands and sings or says
The people answer And also with you.

Bow your heads for God’s blessing.
The Bishop says the solemn blessing with hands outstretched over the people.
May God, the almighty Father,
who gave you new birth by water and the Holy Spirit
and adopted you as his children,
bless and protect you with a father’s love.
The people respond Amen.
The Bishop says
May God’s only Son, who promised that the Spirit of truth
would remain in the Church for ever,
bless and strengthen you to profess the true faith.
The people respond Amen.
The Bishop says
May the Holy Spirit,
who kindled the fire of love in the hearts of the disciples,
bless you, gather you into one,
and lead you safely to the joy of God’s kingdom.
The people respond Amen.
The Bishop concludes
And may the blessing of almighty God,
the Father +, and the Son+, and the Holy Spirit +,
come upon you all and remain with you for ever.
The people answer Amen.
Dismissal
The deacon or Bishop with hands joined, says or sings
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
The people answer Thanks be to God.
The Bishop and the concelebrants kiss the altar as at the beginning. Then, he makes a profound bow toward the altar
with the ministers and leaves.
