Response of the Bishop

The Bishop says
We thank you for mounting this exhibit.
We thank and bless those who took part in preparing this -
from the Araneta Center and our Diocesan Offices.
May this exhibit remind us of Blessed John Paul II
and may it lead more people to a life of holiness.
Introduction
The Bishop addresses the people
My brothers and sisters, friends in the Lord,
all of us fondly remember the late John Paul II,
now Blessed John Paul II.
He was the human face of the papacy.
trailblazing as the prolific Successor of Peter,
tireless in missionary journeys as Saint Paul.
He was truly a Pastor, a Teacher and a Priest to the world.
We now bless this exhibit set up to remember and to honor him,
and may this memorial allow us to share him to more people.
Let us now listen to the Word of God, which in itself is a blessing
and let us ask the Lord to bless our exhibit and all who view it.

Scripture Reading Romans 12:3-13
A lector proclaims the reading
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.

Brothers and sisters:

For by the grace given to me I tell everyone among you
not to think of himself more highly than one ought to think,
but to think soberly,
each according to the measure of faith that God has apportioned.
For as in one body we have many parts,
and all the parts do not have the same function,
so we, though many, are one body in Christ
and individually parts of one another.
Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us,
let us exercise them: if prophecy, in proportion to the faith;
if ministry, in ministering; if one is a teacher, in teaching;
if one exhorts, in exhortation; if one contributes, in generosity;
if one is over others, with diligence;
if one does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
Let love be sincere; hate what is evil, hold on to what is good;
love one another with mutual affection;
anticipate one another in showing honor.
Do not grow slack in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.
Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.
Contribute to the needs of the holy ones, exercise hospitality.

The Word of the Lord

The people answer Thanks be to God.

3
Intercessions
The Bishop says:
God our Father makes his people into the likeness of his Son and the
power of the Holy Spirit continually sanctifies the Church. Let us
therefore offer our petitions to him, saying:
R. Through the intercession of John Paul II, hear us, O Lord.
Assisting minister:
O God, source of all holiness, in the saints you have shown the many
splendours of your grace; grant that in them we may honour your
majesty. For this we pray:R.
Assisting minister:
O God of all wisdom, through your Son Jesus Christ you built your
Church on the foundation of the apostles; keep their teaching secure
among your faithful people. For this we pray: R.
Assisting minister:
You made popes, bishops and priests share in your pastoral ministry
as shepherds of your flock; raise up more people for the ordained
ministry. For this we pray: R.
Assisting minister:
In all your saints you show your presence and make known your
countenance and your word; grant to your faithful that when they
honour the saints they will find themselves drawn closer to you. For
this we pray: R.

4
Prayer of Blessing
The Bishop says
Lord, we bless you for you alone are holy,
and because in your compassion for sinners
you sent into the world your Son, Jesus Christ,
the author and perfecter of holiness.
He sent the Spirit to sustain his newborn Church,
a voice that teaches us the secrets of holiness,
a breeze that strengthens and refreshes,
a fire that sears our hearts in love,
the seed of God that yields a harvest of grace.
Today we praise you
for the gifts of the Spirit bestowed on John Paul the Second,
in whose honour we dedicate this exhibit.
May we follow in the footsteps of the Lord,
keeping before us the example of Blessed John Paul the Second,
and grow to a maturity
measured not by nature, but by the fullness of Christ.
May we proclaim his Gospel by word and deed
and, shouldering our crosses daily,
expend ourselves for others in your service.
As we carry out our earthly duties,
may we be filled with the Spirit of Christ
and keep our eyes fixed on the glories of heaven,
where you, Father, receive those who will reign with your Son,
for ever and ever.
The people answer Amen.
If there is a ribbon at the entrance of the exhibit space, it is cut. Holy water is presented to the Bishop and he sprinkles
himself, the people, and the exhibit with it as an appropriate song is sung. In front of the prayer wall, the Bishop
concludes the Rite of Blessing.

5
Concluding Rite
Facing the people, the Bishop extends his hands and sings or says
The Lord be with you.
The people answer

With hands outstretched over the people, the Bishop blesses them by saying:
God, the crowning glory and the joy of all his saints,
has graciously given you the gift of their patronage.
May he continue to bestow his blessing upon you.
The people answer Amen.
Delivered from present evils by the intercession of the saints
and guided by the example of their holy lives,
may you be found always ready to serve God and your neighbour.

Response of the Bishop

The Bishop says
May this marker remind all who enter this edifice
that once a holy man was once here in this place
and with our gathering, may we always remember
that a holy people, the People of God, have gathered here.
Scripture Reading Acts 10: 34-48
A lector proclaims the reading
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Romans.

Peter proceeded to speak and said,

“In truth, I see that God shows no partiality.
Rather, in every nation whoever fears him
and acts uprightly is acceptable to him.
You know the word that he sent to the Israelites
as he proclaimed peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all,
what has happened all over Judea,
beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached,
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the holy Spirit and power.
He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil,

7
for God was with him.
We are witnesses of all that he did
both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem.
They put him to death by hanging him on a tree.
This man God raised on the third day and granted that he be visible,
not to all the people, but to us,
the witnesses chosen by God in advance,
who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
He commissioned us to preach to the people
and testify that he is the one appointed by God
as judge of the living and the dead.
To him all the prophets bear witness,
that everyone who believes in him
will receive forgiveness of sins through his name.”
While Peter was still speaking these things,
the holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the word.
The people answer Thanks be to God.

Prayer of Blessing
The Bishop says

L ord, you have made the world holy by your presence.

Your Church and your saints extend your presence among us.
We ask you, Lord, to bless this marker and all who view it.
May this marker constantly remind us
that here in this place, the Successor of Peter, John Paul II,
encountered your people and called us to a life of holiness.
May we be inspired to follow the footsteps of Christ
and keep the example of his holy ones.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
The people answer Amen.

The commentator says
In preparation for the celebration of the Eucharist,
everyone is reminded of the following:

This Eucharistic Celebration is a Mass for the Church.
Through Christ,
God has gathered us as his Ekklesia, his assembly, his Christ -
‘a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a redeemed people.’
As the Church of Christ gathered together to remember John Paul II,
we celebrate Christ the Head of the Church

Introduction to the Celebration
Bishop Nes introduces the Mass
Brothers and sisters in Christ,
we are gathered here for the Eucharist as His holy Church
to listen to His Word and share in His sacrificial meal.
This event remembers the holiness of the Blessed John Paul II.
All of us are called to holiness,
for we are all made in the image and likeness of a holy God,
purified and redeemed by the holy sacrifice of the Lord,
and continually sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
We should be nation of of blesseds and saints,
a country of holy men and women,
Christians who live in faith, hope and love,
who stand up for the values of the gospel, for truth and social justice,
who serve and help one another,
who lift up the poor and oppressed,
and who help build up the reign of God in the world.
May this Eucharist renew our union with Christ
and may it help us become more and more like him
and so become his holy people who do his holy work.

Liturgy of the Word
Introduction to Reading I
The commentator says
God has taken from among the nations a people he made holy,
to whom he gives a new heart and a new spirit.
We are God’s people and he is our God.
Reading I Ezek 36:24-28
A reading from the book of the prophet Ezekiel.

I will take you away from among the nations,

gather you from all the lands,
and bring you back to your own soil.
I will sprinkle clean water over you to make you clean;
from all your impurities and from all your idols
I will cleanse you.
I will give you a new heart,
and a new spirit I will put within you.
I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh
and give you a heart of flesh.
I will put my spirit within you
so that you walk in my statutes,
observe my ordinances, and keep them.
You will live in the land I gave to your ancestors;
you will be my people,
and I will be your God.

The Word of the Lord.

The people answer

Responsorial Psalm (Ps 100: We are his people R. Clausen)

13
Introduction to Reading II
The commentator says
Through the Paschal Mystery which we experience in the sacraments,
we have been made clean, sealed with the Holy Spirit
and we have become part of Christ as his Church.
By this we are saved and we become heirs of God’s kingdom.
Reading II Eph 1:3-14
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

who has blessed us in Christ
with every spiritual blessing in the heavens,
as he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world,
to be holy and without blemish before him.
In love he destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ,
in accord with the favor of his will,
for the praise of the glory of his grace
that he granted us in the beloved.
In him we have redemption by his blood,
the forgiveness of transgressions,
in accord with the riches of his grace that he lavished upon us.
In all wisdom and insight,
he has made known to us the mystery of his will
in accord with his favor that he set forth in him
as a plan for the fullness of times,
to sum up all things in Christ, in heaven and on earth.
In him we were also chosen,
destined in accord with the purpose
of the One who accomplishes all things
according to the intention of his will,
so that we might exist for the praise of his glory,
we who first hoped in Christ.
In him you also, who have heard the word of truth,
the gospel of your salvation, and have believed in him,
were sealed with the promised holy Spirit,
14
which is the first installment of our inheritance
toward redemption as God’s possession,
to the praise of his glory.

The Word of the Lord.

The people answer Thanks be to God.

Glory to you, Lord.

book of gospels.
The gospel is proclaimed.
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.
He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit,
and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.
You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.
Remain in me, as I remain in you.
Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own
unless it remains on the vine,
so neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit,
because without me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me
will be thrown out like a branch and wither;
people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be

burned.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you,
ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.
By this is my Father glorified,
that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.

The Gospel of the Lord.

The people answer Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
The commentator says

Profession of Faith
The Bishop from the chair initiates the common recitation of the creed.
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day, he rose again.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic Church
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Liturgy of the Eucharist
Preparation of Gifts
The song at the preparation of the gifts begins and lasts until after the priest has washed his hands.
Meanwhile, the ministers place the corporal, the chalice and the missal on the altar and some members of the faithful
bring forward the gifts of bread and wine and other gifts for the needs of the church and of the poor. The Bishop,
assisted by the servers, receives the gifts. The gifts for the church and for the poor are placed at the side of the sanctuary.
The ciboria containing the bread are placed on the altar.

The Bishop, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and holding it slightly raised above the altar, says
inaudibly
Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.
Through your goodness we have this bread to offer,
which earth has given and human hands have made.
It will become for us the bread of life.
Then he places the paten with the bread on the corporal.
If there is no singing at this part, the Bishop says the prayer in an audible voice, then the people may respond
Blessed be God for ever.

The deacon or concelebrating priest or the Bishop pours wine and a little water into the chalice, saying inaudibly
By this mystery of this water and wine,
may we come to share in the divinity of Christ,
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.

The Bishop takes the chalice and holding it slightly raised above the altar, says inaudibly
Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.
Through your goodness we have this wine to offer,
fruit of the vine and work of human hands.
It will become our spiritual drink.
Then he places the chalice on the corporal.
If there is no singing and the Bishop says the prayer in an audible voice, then the people may respond
Blessed be God for ever.

The Bishop bows and says inaudibly

Lord God, we ask you to receive us
and be pleased with the sacrifice we offer you
with humble and contrite hearts.
If incense is used, the Bishop incenses the offerings and the altar. Afterwards, the deacon or the thurifer incenses him,
the concelebrating priests and the celebrating people, before which the commentator asks the people to stand.
The Bishop stands at the side of the altar and washes his hands, saying inaudibly
Lord, wash away my iniquity; cleanse me from my sin.
The singing at the preparation of the gifts ends at this moment.
If needed, the commentator asks the people to stand.

19
Prayer over the Gifts
Standing at the center of the altar, facing the people, the Bishop extends and then joins his hands, saying
Pray, brethren*,
that our sacrifice may be acceptable to God,
the almighty Father.
The people respond
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good and the good of all His Church.
With hands extended, the Bishop says the prayer.

L ord, we celebrate this memorial of the love of your Son.

May his saving work bring salvation to the world
through the ministry of your Church.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
The people answer
Amen.

20
Eucharistic Prayer for Masses for Various Needs and Occasions III:
Jesus, Way to the Father
The Bishop, with hands outstretched, says The Lord be with you.
The people answer And also with you.
The Bishop, raising his outstretched hands, says Lift up your hearts.
The people answer We lift them up to the Lord.
The Bishop, with hands outstretched, says
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
The people answer
It is right to give him thanks and praise.
The Bishop continues with the preface with hands extended

I t is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation

always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Father of holiness, Lord of heaven and earth,
through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Through your eternal Word you created all things

and govern their course with infinite wisdom.
In the Word made flesh you have given us a mediator
who has spoken your words to us and called us to follow him.
He is the way that leads to you, the truth that sets us free,
the life that makes our joy complete.

Through your Son, you gather into one family

men and women created for the glory of your name,
redeemed by the blood of the cross, and sealed with the Holy Spirit.

And so we praise your mighty deeds

and join with the hosts of angels,
as they proclaim your glory without end:
The whole assembly sings or says the sanctus. Then, the people kneel.

21
The Bishop, with hands extended, says

Y ou are truly blessed, O God of holiness:

you accompany us with love
as we journey through life.
Blessed too is your Son, Jesus Christ,
who is present among us and whose love gathers us together.
As once he did for his disciples,
Christ now opens the scriptures for us
and breaks the bread.
He joins his hands and holding them outstretched over the offerings says
Bishop and concelebrants

G reat and merciful Father,

we ask you to send down your Holy Spirit
to hallow these gifts of bread and wine,
that they may become for us
He joins his hands, and continues, making a sign of the cross once over both bread and wine
the body  and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
He joins his hands and continues

O n the eve of his passion and death,

while at table with those he loved
He takes the bread and, raising it a little above the altar, continues
he took bread and gave you thanks;
he broke the bread,
gave it to his disciples, and said:
He bows slightly.
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT IT:
THIS IS MY BODY WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
He shows the Body of Christ to the people, places the Body of Christ on the paten and genuflects in adoration.

22
Then, he continues
When supper was ended, he took the cup.
The Bishop takes the chalice and raising it a little above the altar, continues
again he gave you thanks
and, handing the cup to his disciples, he said:
He bows slightly
TAKE THIS ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT:
THIS IS THE CUP OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND EVERLASTING COVENANT.
IT WILL BE SHED FOR YOU AND FOR ALL
SO THAT SINS MAY BE FORGIVEN.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
He shows the chalice to the people, places the chalice on the altar and genuflects in adoration.
Then he says
Let us proclaim the mystery of faith:
Everyone proclaims the mystery of faith through a song.
Then, with hands extended, the Bishop says
Bishop with concelebrants

A nd so, Father most holy,

we celebrate the memory of Christ, your Son,
whom you led through suffering and death on the cross
to the glory of the resurrection and a place at your right hand.
Until Jesus, our Savior, comes again,
we proclaim the work of your love,
and we offer you the bread of life
and the cup of eternal blessing.

Look with favor on the offering of your Church

in which we show forth the paschal sacrifice of Christ entrusted to us.
Through the power of your Spirit of love
include us now and for ever among the members of your Son,
whose body and blood we share.

23
Bishop or one Concelebrant

A lmighty Father,
by our sharing in this mystery
enliven us with your Spirit
and conform us to the image of your Son.
Strengthen the bonds of our communion
with Benedict, our pope, Honesto, our bishop,
with all the bishops, priests, and deacons,
and all your holy people.

Keep your Church alert in faith to the signs of the times

and eager to accept the challenge of the gospel.
Open our hearts to the needs of all humanity,
so that sharing their grief and anguish, their joy and hope,
we may faithfully bring them the good news of salvation
and advance together on the way to your kingdom.
Bishop or one Concelebrant

B e mindful of our brothers and sisters,

who have fallen asleep in the peace of Christ,
and all the dead whose faith only you can know.
Lead them to the fullness of the resurrection
and gladden them with the light of your face.

When our pilgrimage on earth is complete,

welcome us into your heavenly home,
where we shall dwell with you for ever.
There, with Mary, the Virgin Mother of God,
with the apostles, the martyrs, and all the saints,
we shall praise you and give you glory
He joins his hands
with Jesus Christ, our Lord.

24
The Bishop takes the chalice and paten with the consecrated host and lifting them up (until after the Amen), sings or
says the doxology
Bishop alone or with concelebrants
Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever.
The people give their assent by singing or saying
Amen.
Communion Rite
Lord’s Prayer
The Bishop sets down the chalice and paten and with hands joined, sings or says
Jesus taught us to call God our Father,
and so we have the courage to say:
Everyone sings or recites the Lord’s Prayer. The Bishop extends his hands
Our Father in heaven,
holy be your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the test
but deliver us from evil.
With hands extended, the Bishop continues alone with the embolism
Deliver us, Lord, from every evil
and grant us peace in our day.
In your mercy keep us free from sin
and protect us from all anxiety
as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior,
Jesus Christ.
He joins his hands.
The people end the prayer with the doxology
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours,
now and forever.

25
Rite of Peace
Then, the Bishop, with hands extended, says aloud
Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles:
I leave you peace, my peace I give you.
Look not on our sins but on the faith of your Church,
and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom
He joins his hands.
where you live forever and ever.
The people answer
Amen.
The Bishop, extending and joining his hands, adds
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
The people answer
And also with you.
Then the deacon or the Bishop may add
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
All make an appropriate sign of peace.

Breaking of Bread
After a comfortable time for exchanging signs of peace, the Agnus Dei is sung or recited
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world:
grant us peace.
The Bishop, meanwhile, takes the host and breaks it over the paten. He places a small piece in the chalice, saying
inaudibly
May this mingling of the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.

Private Preparation of the Priest

Then, the priest joins his hands and says inaudibly
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God,
by the will of the Father and the work of the Holy Spirit
your death brought life to the world.
By your holy body and blood free me from all my sins, and from every evil.
Keep me faithful to your teaching, and never let me be parted from you.
or
Lord Jesus Christ, with faith in your love and mercy
I eat your body and drink your blood.
Let it not bring me condemnation, but health in mind and body.

who takes away the sins of the world.
Happy are those who are called to his supper.
He adds, with the people
Lord, I am not worthy to receive you
but only say the word and I shall be healed.
Facing the altar, the priest says inaudibly
May the body of Christ bring me to everlasting life.
He reverently consumes the body of Christ. Then he takes the chalice and says inaudibly
May the blood of Christ bring me to everlasting life.
He reverently drinks the blood of Christ.
The bell may be rung to signal the start of the communion of the people.
